Is your child amblyopic? Parents can judge by these 9 symptoms!

Is your child amblyopic? Parents can judge by these 9 symptoms!

Amblyopia is when vision in one eye decreases due to abnormal visual development at a young age. The weaker eye often has an eye that is either strabismus or crosses the eye. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to your child's eye health. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent long-term vision problems in children.

How to judge whether a child has amblyopia at home requires parents to closely observe whether the child has the following symptoms:

01. Photophobia

The light perception system of amblyopic patients has a certain degree of degeneration, and the iris' control over light intensity is disordered, which may cause the patient to be afraid of light and accompanied by irritability symptoms.

02. Abnormal vision

Abnormal vision is the main symptom. Amblyopia patients have different refractive powers of both eyes, with the difference of refractive power of the two eyes exceeding 250 degrees, which leads to a high degree of vision loss in patients. Patients should receive timely treatment. If not treated in time, serious conditions may occur, resulting in irreversible vision loss.

03. Crowding

"Crowding phenomenon" is also known as grouping difficulty. The patient's ability to distinguish visual signs arranged in rows is worse than his ability to distinguish individual visual signs.

04. Abnormal color vision

The visual organs lack the perception of color, resulting in a decrease or disappearance of the patient's ability to distinguish colors.

05. Abnormal fixation

Normal people use the macula to fixate (fixation means staring at the target you want to see). If the patient has amblyopia, he or she may lose the ability to use the fovea to fixate, resulting in paracentral fixation.

06. Abnormal eye position

The patient's vision between the two eyes is quite different. Over time, this may cause the eye to choose to look at the side with better vision, resulting in strabismus, which may manifest as esotropia and clinical manifestations of crossed eyes.

07. Eye movement disorders

The patient's eyes may not be able to accurately follow the movement of objects, or symptoms may occur such as nystagmus.

08. Squinting frequently

The patient's vision deteriorates, resulting in blurred vision and squinting when seeing.

09.Other associated symptoms

If a patient with amblyopia undergoes a visual evoked potential test, it will be found that the latency is prolonged and the amplitude is decreased.

Because patients squint when looking at things, they may also have abnormal posture, such as the body leaning to one side.

Some amblyopic patients have poor hand-foot coordination and may be prone to falling.

A small number of patients may also read the wrong line or upside down.

Zhu Lina, director of Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital, said that amblyopia is an eye disease that seriously harms children's visual function. If not treated in time, it can cause amblyopia to worsen and even cause irreversible damage. If parents find that their children have the above symptoms, they may be at risk of amblyopia. Parents need to take their children to professional ophthalmology institutions for examination in time, and intervene and treat them as soon as possible to protect their children's "eyes" for a bright future!
