What does drinking sugar water during pregnancy test check?

One of the prenatal check-up items during pregnancy is to drink sugar water. By taking red bean sugar water orally and then testing relevant blood sugar indicators, its main function is to determine whether the pregnant woman suffers from gestational diabetes. Drinking sugar water during prenatal check-up has a professional medical name, called the glucose tolerance test, also known as the 75-gram oral glucose tolerance test. This test is mainly carried out around 24 weeks of pregnancy. The purpose is to test the blood sugar level of the pregnant mother by drinking sugar water to determine whether she has gestational diabetes. Every pregnant woman must undergo this examination, because gestational diabetes can easily cause more significant effects on pregnant mothers and fetuses, and if misdiagnosed, it can easily cause serious adverse effects. Every pregnant woman needs to prepare for her sugar tolerance in advance and drink sugar water according to the operating procedures.

1. a. Reduce the intake of cassava starch (pasta) and sugar two weeks before the examination. Try to avoid taking regular meals, and the amount of each meal should be less than 2 taels (i.e. eat less noodles, bean noodles, etc. The regular meal should not exceed 500 grams a day). It is best not to drink millet porridge in the morning, you can use milk instead.

b. Do not eat high-fat foods, and try not to eat foods high in sugar. Here, foods high in sugar refer to desserts, drinks, and even fruits containing refined sugar that can be directly absorbed by the body without any conversion, such as chocolate, cola, lychees, sugar cane, and a lot of melons, etc.

c. Limit the intake of fruits, especially those with high sugar content (change fruits to kiwi, loofah, tomato and other fruits that are not too high in sugar. Eat them in between meals). Don't eat raw eggs for dinner.

d. Eat more vegetables, no less than 500 grams per day, to supplement vitamins and methylcellulose.

e..Drink plenty of water and do proper exercise. Take a walk after meals to burn off excess sugar.

2. The day before the sugar screening or glucose tolerance test, it is best to eat light vegetarian meals and eat less white rice. Make stir-fried bitter melon to lower blood lipids.

3. Don’t eat after 8 o’clock at night the day before yesterday, and drink less water.

4. Don’t drink the granulated sugar too fast, drink it slowly, little by little, don’t drink it in one gulp, drink it within 3-5 minutes.

It is best to walk more after drinking, so that there will be a certain amount of energy consumption within an hour, which will help reduce blood sugar levels.

5. Grasp the time for blood test, start from one hour after drinking. If you start drinking at 7:10 and finish drinking at 7:20, you have to draw the blood again at 8:20.
