The light sleep stage is the path to deep sleep and REM sleep, and we can hardly enter deep sleep and REM sleep directly from the awake state.

03 Deep sleep - repair a day's fatigue After light sleep, we enter deep sleep. For people in deep sleep, the EEG is presented as diffuse waves, so deep sleep is also called diffuse wave sleep. Our cells secrete the most growth hormone during deep sleep. We rely on this hormone for life to maintain bones and muscles. Moreover, it is also conducive to recovery from pain and improving immunity. Under normal circumstances, the time of deep sleep for adults accounts for 15-25% of the total sleep time. If a person sleeps for 8 hours at night, then his deep sleep time should be within 72 minutes to 120 minutes. 04 REM stage - a stage of a lot of dreaming In the early 1950s, Eugene Asersky, a graduate student at the University of Chicago, and his mentor Kleitman noticed that after a child fell asleep, his eyeballs would move rapidly in different directions. This is the REM sleep stage. REM sleep usually begins 90 minutes after falling asleep, that is, after the cycle of light sleep and deep sleep. This stage is the stage where dreams are most frequent. During the REM sleep stage, people will integrate and process the information received during the day, and then transform temporary reserve memory into permanent memory. This process is very complicated.
