Be alert if you experience these symptoms, beware of cataracts!

Cataracts are a blinding risk that everyone may encounter. Generally speaking, as we age, our metabolism changes, and like graying hair, the lens begins to become cloudy. This is age-related cataracts, which are common in middle-aged and elderly people.

However, most patients know very little about cataracts. Today, let's take a look at what symptoms indicate that you may have cataracts.

Gradually blurred vision

A common symptom of cataracts is progressive blurring of vision. If the normal vision of a person is through a piece of clear glass, then the vision of a cataract patient is like through a piece of "frosted glass", and everything is blurry. As time goes by, the blurriness may gradually increase until it becomes completely blurred.

Seeing double

The appearance of aperture when looking at things is mainly because in the early stage of cataract, the lens has not yet become completely cloudy and some parts are still transparent. Therefore, when the light hits the lens and is refracted to the retina, double or even multiple images will appear.

Presbyopia suddenly improved

Some elderly people are very happy to find that their presbyopia symptoms are suddenly relieved and they can read and write without reading glasses. In fact, this is only a temporary phenomenon and a typical symptom of early cataracts. As the cataract gradually worsens, it becomes unclear whether you are looking far or near.

Color recognition is reduced

When cataracts occur, some patients will find that their color recognition decreases, the world in front of their eyes is no longer as bright as before, and the color contrast of objects is no longer clear and strong, as if the world has turned into black and white.

Day blindness or night blindness

Some cataract patients may also experience day blindness or night blindness. Day blindness refers to the vision in bright light being worse than in the evening or at night; night blindness is just the opposite, the vision at night or in dim light suddenly becomes worse than before.

Hua Xia, director of Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital, said that cataracts usually occur in people over 50 years old, and the incidence rate is relatively high with age. In addition, patients with high myopia and diabetes may develop cataracts relatively early. Therefore, you can self-test whether you have the above symptoms and have regular eye examinations to achieve early detection and early intervention of cataracts.
