Don't be afraid, this kind of B-ultrasound will not cause miscarriage

32-year-old Ms. Li came to Hunan Guangxiu Hospital for treatment because of amenorrhea for 45 days and dull pain in the lower abdomen. The doctor recommended that she undergo a vaginal ultrasound to confirm whether she was pregnant and to rule out the possibility of ectopic pregnancy.

Ms. Li was lying on the ultrasound examination bed, looking very nervous. She asked questions one after another: "Doctor, the probe is inserted so deep, if I get pregnant, will it affect the baby's health? Will it cause miscarriage? Can I change to abdominal B-ultrasound?"

Ultrasound doctors have seen many cases similar to Ms. Li's in their daily work. Is transvaginal ultrasound really that scary? It is necessary to let everyone know:

So far, there is no evidence-based medical evidence to support the claim that "transvaginal ultrasound causes miscarriage". If you have heard from a relative or friend, or seen a netizen post that "miscarriage occurred after transvaginal ultrasound examination", it may be a coincidence, because the spontaneous miscarriage rate in early pregnancy is 10% to 15%.

So, will transvaginal ultrasound cause miscarriage? Of course not! Gynecological ultrasound examinations are mainly divided into abdominal ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound. During a transvaginal ultrasound examination, the probe is placed in the vagina and only touches the level of the external cervical os. It will not enter the cervical canal, let alone enter the uterine cavity through the internal cervical os. Therefore, it is safe enough for women.

But why is transvaginal ultrasound the preferred examination in early pregnancy?

Advantages 1. Accurately assess embryo development: clearly understand whether the position of the gestational sac is normal, and determine whether it is an intrauterine or extrauterine pregnancy (i.e. ectopic pregnancy); determine the number of embryos (the most accurate method for early diagnosis of multiple pregnancies); verify the gestational age and determine the embryo development (you can determine the baby's development by observing the fetal bud and fetal heart rate, and detect abnormalities in the uterus and appendages early).

Advantage 2. No need to fill the bladder, that is, "hold urine", saving time for pregnant women

The above pictures are all the examination results displayed under transvaginal ultrasound, from top to bottom:

1. The small gestational sac is the "harbor" for the baby to grow.

2. The embryo "sprouts" and the baby begins its life journey.

3. Even though the baby is still very small, he already has a strong heartbeat.
