What is the cause of high basal body temperature?

What is the reason for high basal body temperature? Ovulation temperature is also called resting body temperature, which is the lowest body temperature during the day. Well, let the editor show you the reasons for high basal body temperature.

1. What is the reason for high basal body temperature?

The corpus luteum has reached the end of its lifespan. Under normal circumstances, the contraction is rapid. After 1-2 days of cooling before menstruation, the corpus luteum and estrogen will withdraw. In the case of incomplete contraction, estrogen and estrogens generally cannot be completely withdrawn on time, so the body temperature cannot drop quickly. The fluctuation is within the range of lower than the highest temperature and higher than the ultra-low temperature. If after the menstrual period, the body temperature finally returns to the ultra-low temperature zone, then this is largely the reason.

The body temperature remains high during the ovulation period of the menstrual period. Another possible reason may be endometriosis or miscarriage before pregnancy. The bleeding of endometriosis will produce absorption heat, thus maintaining a high temperature; miscarriage before pregnancy will also cause the body temperature to drop slowly due to the slow withdrawal of estrogen.

2. What is the body temperature during ovulation?

Ovulation body temperature (Basal Body Temperature, BBT), also known as resting body temperature, refers to the body temperature measured after a person has experienced 6-8 hours of sleep, such as when waking up from a deep sleep in the morning, and the body temperature is not affected by exercise, diet or mood changes. Ovulation body temperature is generally the lowest body temperature in a day.

3. How to record body temperature during ovulation

Accurately measuring the ovulation body temperature and recording it properly on the temperature record sheet can reflect the functional status of the ovaries. If the record is wrong, it will lose its practical significance. Below is a chart of the ovulation temperature trend of a normal pregnant woman in a menstrual cycle. As can be seen from the figure, the body temperature in the upper part is lower, while the body temperature in the latter part is higher, showing a typical two-phase body temperature curve.

The horizontal axis indicates the time and the menstrual cycle day, and each small grid represents 1 day. Starting from the first day of menarche, the body temperature measured each day is marked with small dots in the squares of the corresponding temperature record sheet, until the day before the next menarche. Finally, each small dot is connected in sequence with a straight line to form the basic body temperature curve of one physiological cycle.

How to measure body temperature during ovulation

1. Buy a thermometer, master the reading method, and strive for accuracy. It is recommended to use a professional basic thermometer. The basic thermometer is different from the general thermometer and has higher precision.

2. Before going to bed every night, swing the mercury column on the thermometer to below 35 degrees. If it is an electronic thermometer, return it to the initial value and put it where you can reach it when you wake up.

3. After waking up every morning, immediately place the thermometer under the tongue for 5 minutes, take it out and read the value, and record it on a specially prepared report. It can also be accurately measured under the armpit, but the armpit temperature is generally not as stable as the oral temperature.

4. You are not allowed to wake up, go to the toilet, eat, talk, etc. before taking your temperature.

5. You should record the factors that may affect your body temperature during ovulation, such as fever, cold, insomnia, drinking, taking medicine, and your mental state. In case of fever, cold, fever, diarrhea, insomnia, drinking, using electric blankets, drinking too much, going to bed late and getting up late, etc., it is easy to affect the ovulation temperature. Pay attention when measuring it, and pay attention to special marking.

6. The menarche and sexual intercourse date must be additionally marked.

7. Record the measurement results on the basal body temperature chart. In addition to recording them on paper, it is better to record them on a professional ovulation temperature visualization tool, which can more conveniently and intuitively query the basal body temperature curve and clearly see the ultra-low temperature period and high temperature period.

The effect of body temperature during ovulation

1. Identify whether it is the ovulation period and provide specific guidance on contraceptive measures

Generally, the body temperature during the follicular phase and ovulation period is 36.5℃. If the body temperature rises by more than 0.5℃ during the follicular phase, a two-phase performance will appear, indicating that there is ovulation. If the single-phase electrical type has no rising body temperature curve in the middle and late stages, it indicates that there is no ovulation, and its accuracy is 70%~80%.

If within 24 hours, the body temperature rises by 0.3-0.6℃ or even higher, it means that you are in the ovulation period.

In addition, the body temperature during ovulation can also roughly reflect the quality of the ovulated eggs. If the high temperature period during ovulation is long and can last for 13 to 14 days, it means that the quality of the egg cell is very good.

What causes high basal body temperature?

2. Diagnose early pregnancy and distinguish the blessings and disasters in early pregnancy

If your ovulation temperature remains high for more than two weeks, you should consider going to the hospital for a check-up because you may be pregnant. If it is ≥20 days, it can be clearly defined as early pregnancy. In the early stages of pregnancy, the BBT curve gradually decreases, indicating insufficient luteal function or poor placental function, and a tendency towards miscarriage.

3. Observe the function of the corpus luteum

BBT should increase immediately after ovulation and remain at a high quality level for ≥ 11 days. If BBT increases in a trapezoidal shape and the curve takes 3 days to reach a high level, or BBT rises steadily for <11 days, it can be diagnosed as luteal phase defecation (LPD).
