Omdia: Global smartphone shipments will reach 1.223 billion units in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 7.1%

According to recent news, market research firm Omdia has released a preliminary report on smartphone shipments, showing that global shipments reached 328 million units in the fourth quarter of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 2.8%.

The smartphone market has achieved year-on-year growth for five consecutive quarters so far.

Total shipments for the full year 2024 climb to 1.223 billion units, up 7.1% from 1.142 billion units in 2023, marking a steady recovery for the industry.

Looking at specific manufacturers, Xiaomi performed the best among the top five in the world, firmly ranking among the top three in the world, maintaining a strong global growth momentum, with shipments reaching 169 million units, an increase of more than 20 million smartphones compared to 2023.

Omdia said Xiaomi's performance throughout 2024 exceeded expectations.

The Xiaomi Mi 15 series and Redmi K80 series were both launched in the fourth quarter of 2024 and have been a huge success in the Chinese market. They are also actively expanding into overseas markets, especially in Africa and Latin America.

The iPhone 16 series pushed global iPhone shipments to 77.1 million units in the fourth quarter, but overall shipments still declined from the same period last year, down 1 million units from 78.1 million units in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Apple's full-year shipments in 2024 were 225 million units, down 1.4% from 229 million units in 2023, but it is still ahead of Samsung and has won the title of world number one.

Samsung's shipments in the fourth quarter of 2024 were 51.9 million units, bringing total shipments for the year to 223 million units, a decrease of 1.1% from 2023.

In addition, Transsion ranked fourth with 107 million shipments, and vivo ranked fifth with 101 million shipments.
