CNN: Survey shows more than 76% of respondents believe Facebook makes America worse

According to a new poll released by CNN on the 10th, more than three-quarters (76%) of Americans believe that Facebook, the US social media giant, is making the US worse, not better. Nearly half of the respondents (49%) said that people they know believe conspiracy theories because of the content provided by Facebook, especially among young people.

The survey results show that even among frequent Facebook users, 70% of respondents believe that Facebook harms rather than helps American society. Among Americans who use Facebook multiple times a month, 54% said that the platform has recommended offensive posts to them. 65% of users under the age of 35 believe that they have seen offensive content recommended by the platform. Most people in both parties in the United States believe that Facebook does more harm than good. 82% of Republican respondents believe that Facebook is harmful. Overall, about 1/3 of the American public said that Facebook is making American society worse and that Facebook itself is more responsible than its users.

53% of respondents said the U.S. federal government should strengthen its supervision of Facebook. In fact, Americans also distrust the so-called good intentions of large technology companies, with 38% saying they do not trust companies such as Google, Facebook or Amazon to do the best for users, up from 29% in March 2019. CNN said Facebook is currently facing a new round of scrutiny. Previously, when the company's former employee Haugen testified in Congress, he exposed that Facebook and its many social media products had serious problems in their operations and deliberately concealed them. Facebook denied this.
