Appfigures: In September 2023, ChatGPT's global mobile downloads reached 15.6 million times and total revenue was close to US$4.6 million

OpenAI's efforts on the mobile version of ChatGPT have brought it rich rewards. According to the latest analysis data from market intelligence company Appfigures, ChatGPT's mobile version installation volume and total revenue set two new records in September this year : in terms of installation volume, its global downloads reached 15.6 million times in September , including 9 million downloads from Google Play and 6.6 million downloads from Apple's App Store. In terms of total revenue, the total revenue in September was close to US$4.6 million, with a net income of US$3.2 million . US $3 million of the total revenue came from iPhone users, and the rest came from Google Play .

On May 18 this year, OpenAI launched the iOS version of the ChatGPT app on the APP Store. On July 25, ChatGPT officially landed on the Android platform. Now the Android version of the ChatGPT app has been launched in all countries and regions that support ChatGPT .

In the past few months, the app's total revenue in June was $2.1 million, in July the revenue increased by 31% to $2.74 million, and in August the revenue increased by 39% to $3.81 million. Although the total revenue in September hit a new high again, the growth rate was reduced to 20%.

The slowdown in revenue growth may also indicate that the company may have reached a ceiling for users willing to pay for its ChatGPT+ subscription service , which costs $19.99 per month and offers faster response times, priority access during peak hours, and earlier access to new features and improvements.

The United States remains ChatGPT’s largest market by far, contributing approximately 60% of the app’s total revenue .

However, Appfigures data shows that ChatGPT is not the highest-grossing AI application. A software called Ask AI has earned more revenue with high advertising spending , from $6.48 million when the ChatGPT mobile version was launched in May to $6.55 million in August. It fell slightly to $5.51 million in September, but its revenue was still higher than ChatGPT.
