Against the backdrop of 30 million smartphone sales in the entire Japanese market, Sony's market share shrank to 3%, losing its position as one of the top five smartphone brands in Japan.

Atsushi Onishi, a professor at Waseda University in Japan, analyzed that the camera software of Sony Xperia mobile phones has an awkward positioning. It is too professional for ordinary consumers and fails to fully meet the needs of technically proficient users. This may be one of the reasons for the decline in sales.

At the same time, the popularity of Google Pixel in the Japanese market has increased significantly. In July 2023, Japan became the largest market for Google Pixel, with sales of Pixel series phones increasing by an astonishing 527% year-on-year.

According to previous news, Sony plans to hold a new Xperia product launch conference on May 15, and is expected to launch two new mobile phones, Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI.

The Xperia 1 VI will be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen3 processor, while the Xperia 10 VI will be equipped with a Snapdragon 6 Gen1 processor. Both new phones do not use Sony's previously iconic 21:9 screen ratio.
