Ming-Chi Kuo: iPhone shipments are expected to decline 15% year-on-year to about 200 million units in 2024

On the same day that a market research firm released a report saying that Apple's iPhone sales in the domestic market in the first six weeks fell 24% year-on-year, well-known Apple product analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also said on social media that iPhone's global shipments this year will decline year-on-year.

Kuo Ming-Chi cited a supply chain investigation on social media that determined that Apple had cut orders for key semiconductor components used in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 series.

Guo Mingchi believes that in 2024, shipments may decline by 10%-15% every six months, which generally means that the annual shipments will be 200 million units. If confirmed, shipments will decline by 15% year-on-year.

As for the reasons for the decline in shipments, Guo Mingchi believes that there are two aspects. First, high-end smartphones are beginning to turn to generative artificial intelligence elements and folding screen designs. Second, Huawei's domestic market share has increased.

Guo Mingchi believes that Apple will not launch an iPhone with improved design and more artificial intelligence technology before 2025. As for the foldable iPhone, it seems that it will take some time. Although there are reports that Apple has started research and development many years ago, there is no sign of launching it. There are rumors that it will be launched in 2025.

In the domestic market, the iPhone will face challenges in the near future and in the future. Weekly shipments have fallen by 30% to 40% in recent weeks. Guo Mingchi also believes that Apple will continue to face competition from Huawei and foldable phones in the domestic market.
