Counterpoint Research: China's market will account for 26% of global foldable screen shipments in 2022

Counterpoint Research released a white paper titled "The Future of Foldable Smartphones Is Promising," pointing out that global shipments of foldable smartphones will see strong growth. From 2019 to 2025, the compound annual growth rate will reach 114%, and the shipments in 2025 will quadruple from 2022 to 55 million units.

In 2019, Samsung took the lead in launching foldable screen smartphones, creating a new track for foldable screens. Chinese mobile phone brands quickly followed suit and continuously launched new foldable screen products in the domestic market. In 2022, the Chinese market accounted for 26% of global foldable screen shipments, and China has become a global leader in the development of foldable screen smartphones.

In terms of specific models, the 10 best-selling foldable screen mobile phones in China from January to June 2023 are:

OPPO Find N2 Flip (13.1%), Huawei Mate X3 (9.6%), Huawei Pocket S (7.2%), Huawei Mate Xs 2 (7.2%), Huawei P50 Pocket (7.1%), OPPO Find N2 (6.5%), Huawei Magic VS (6.4%), Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 (5.8%), Samsung W23 5G (5.5%), vivo X Flip (4.4%).

Counterpoint expects that Chinese smartphone brands will continue to lead the domestic foldable phone market and further capture more market share through overseas expansion.

Since the advent of foldable screen mobile phones in 2019, they have gone through several generations of development. The first generation of products is still in the exploratory stage, while the focus of the second generation has shifted to improving the practicality of foldable screen mobile phones in daily life.
