Samsung smartphone shipments are expected to reach 300 million units in 2021, an increase of 15%

Although the overall smartphone market may shrink, Samsung expects that the company will increase sales as its rival Huawei faces strict US regulation: smartphone shipments will increase to 300 million units in 2021. It is worth noting that Samsung's Galaxy S20 series of mobile phones performed less than expected as the COVID-19 pandemic made the situation in the smartphone market more severe in the first half of this year.

Sales were weak at the beginning of the year, but they apparently expect a recovery in the second half of the year. According to industry insiders, Samsung is planning a promotional plan to enable its smartphone shipments to exceed 300 million units.

The company expects its total shipments in 2020 to be 260 million units, which means an increase of 15% in 2021. In addition, Huawei's sanctions by the United States are also a positive for Samsung. In other words, Samsung obviously hopes to grab the market share lost by Huawei.

“Samsung Electronics expects Huawei’s smartphone shipments to drop 70% next year compared to this year due to U.S. sanctions,” a person familiar with the matter said.

It is reported that Samsung still hopes to maintain its leadership in the global smartphone market this year despite its mediocre performance in 2020. The company currently ranks first in the world with a global market share of 21%, and Huawei ranks second and third respectively.
