Popular Science | Psychological counseling during the epidemic - Parent-child edition

The epidemic situation is changing repeatedly, and a war without gunpowder continues to rise and fall.

The epidemic has brought many inconveniences to people's lives, studies and work. In the face of the epidemic, in addition to doing a good job of scientific self-protection, we must pay more attention to mental health, because positive and optimistic emotions and a healthy and positive mentality are themselves a kind of powerful immunity.

Especially during the severe epidemic, students took online classes at home, and parents had to stay at home to watch over and care for their children. When the little beasts were at home, the parent-child relationship was full of challenges. Not only did the parent-child relationship become tense, but conflicts were also common.

What should we do to avoid negative emotions such as anxiety, panic and depression from taking advantage of the situation?

*Analysis of the reasons for the rigid parent-child relationship

Emotional transmission Under external pressure and epidemic conditions, everyone will have emotions such as anxiety, fear, and worry. Since everyone is under the same roof, it is easy to transmit these emotions to each other.

Role Blurring During the epidemic, the boundaries between home and school are somewhat blurred. Parents are both parents and teachers; children are both children and students. These role switching can easily cause people to feel stressed and irritable, and the emotional instability of each other leads to conflicts.

Work pressure Parents also face work pressure. When they have nowhere to vent, they are likely to demand or order their children in a condescending manner.

Self-rebellion Children are always under the supervision of their parents, have no sense of freedom, and are criticized for everything they do, so they naturally rebel or escape.

*Solution to the problem

First of all, parents, children are studying at home, and we are also working at home. We all need to use time for specific purposes. Avoid disturbing children when they are studying and let them have their own study space.

Secondly, parents can choose a time when both of them are free to spend time with their children and pay attention to their children's status and emotions in a timely manner.

You can chat with each other, do housework together, and play parent-child games for primary school students. If you find that your child has negative emotions or behaviors, parents should first understand and accept them, then promptly conduct positive counseling and relief, and seek psychological help from teachers and professionals when necessary.

Again, give children the opportunity to express their emotions and learn to empathize with them. For example, when children play games, parents can understand that in this era of the Internet, and in a family environment where there are not many playmates, it is very normal for children to like the Internet, and perhaps they will not have such strong emotions.

Finally, parents must manage their emotions, be kind, and teach by example. Parents are role models for their children. Your every move and every word is seen and remembered by your children. If you lose your temper with your children and lack patience, how can your children be confident and peaceful?

* Self-relief of anxiety

315 Breathing Relaxation Method

Inhale: Inhale slowly and deeply in the rhythm of "1-2-3", allowing the air to fill the chest in about 3 seconds.

Hold your breath: Pause for about 1 second after inhaling the air. Feel relaxed, comfortable, and not holding your breath.

Exhale: exhale the air from the bottom of your lungs naturally and slowly, counting silently in your mind: 1-2-3-4-5. At this point, your shoulders, chest, and even diaphragm will feel relaxed and comfortable.

Note that your breathing should be even, comfortable, rhythmic, and neither too fast nor too slow. When you breathe, imagine that the tension is slowly being driven away.

Doing the above three movements 10 times in a row will make your breathing natural and even. Doing more sets will help you relax fully.
