Qlik: 2018 Business Intelligence (BI) Report

Qlik released its 2018 Business Intelligence (BI) Report, analyzing 11 important trends in the industry.

  1. Data literacy will be prioritized across the company and society. According to a Qlik survey, nearly 50% of employees are struggling to distinguish between data truth and manipulation. Less than 20% of employees are data literate, compared to 49% who are not data literate. However, 65% of respondents are willing to invest more time and energy to improve data skills if given more opportunities.
  2. Hybrid cloud connects the dots. Netskope estimates that the average enterprise currently runs around 1,000 different cloud services.
  3. Data goes edge. By 2019, at least 40% of data created by the Internet of Things will be stored, processed, analyzed, and acted upon at the edge of the network. By 2022, 75% of enterprise-generated data will be created and processed outside of traditional centralized data centers or clouds, up from less than 10% today.
  4. Big data, data insights, and data science are converging.
  5. Data catalogs will be the next frontier in self-service.
  6. The need for interoperability and new business models will focus on APIs.
  7. Blockchain hype will drive experimental applications beyond cryptocurrencies.
  8. Analytics will become more interactive.
  9. Reporting will be redefined to be highly contextualized.
  10. Analytics becomes immersive.
  11. Augmented reality-based intelligent systems transform users into participants and enablers.

In an increasingly challenging environment, management, security, and data quality are becoming increasingly important. To thrive in the analytics economy, businesses need to adopt novel ways to do so while also coping with an increasingly distributed environment.

Leveraging a truly open platform with an ecosystem, and the latest trends, technologies and approaches, to bring together data, people and ideas. This will lead to more data-savvy users and innovative intelligence, and successfully integrate data into our lives.
