Snapchat’s primary function is a photo-sharing app, however, as shown in the following figure, WhatsApp users are more willing to engage in photo sharing.

But Snapchat continues to expand its functionality to compete with Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Snapchat is like a full-fledged social network rather than just a communication platform, adding the ability to push live content and push videos.

As a result, Snapchat users have access to more features, whereas WhatsApp's peer-to-peer or group messaging capabilities mean that chatting and photo sharing remain its core functions.
