UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority: Nokia's mobile phone market share in the UAE was 56% in Q2 2013

On August 21, 2013, according to data released this week by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the United Arab Emirates (hereinafter referred to as "UAE"), Nokia is still the largest mobile phone manufacturer in the UAE.

The report shows that Nokia's mobile phone market share in the UAE was 56% in the second quarter of this year, compared with 50% in the first quarter.

Samsung's market share is also growing, reaching 10.7% in the first quarter, on par with BlackBerry, and increasing to 13.8% in the second quarter, while BlackBerry remained unchanged.

Meanwhile, Apple's market share has fallen from 8.4% in the first quarter to 7.4%. The iPhone 4S, once the second best-selling phone in the UAE, has now fallen out of the top five. Samsung's Galaxy S3 has made it into the top five, and the top four are all low-cost Nokia phones.

The best-selling phone was the Nokia 1280, a simple feature phone launched in 2010. Of the top four Nokia phones, only one was a smartphone, the E5, but it did run the now-obsolete Symbian operating system.

The report shows that smartphone penetration in the UAE was 44% in the second quarter, with Symbian being the most widely used operating system at 38%, compared to 50% in the first quarter.

BlackBerry OS ranked second with a 23% share, Android ranked third with 21%, and iOS ranked fourth with 16%.
