The reporter interviewed Qing Huiling, director of the Optometry Center of Henan Provincial Eye Hospital, to prevent myopia. She suggested that when reading for 20 minutes, close your eyes for 20 seconds and look into the distance for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.

Qing Huiling introduced that this year's theme is to pay attention to general eye health. Eye diseases occur from childhood to old age, throughout the entire life cycle. People in four stages, from fetuses and newborns, adolescents, middle-aged and young people, to the elderly, should pay attention to eye health and take care of their eyes.

Eye health conditions vary at different age stages, Qing Huiling said. During the fetal period, attention should be paid to eye examinations for fetal genetic diseases; during the neonatal period, attention should be paid to neonatal eye disease screening; and during the adolescent period, special attention should be paid to myopia.

In recent years, the rate of poor vision among young students in my country has continued to rise, and the phenomenon of younger age is obvious. Myopia has become a major public health problem that troubles students, families, schools and even society. Qing Huiling said that schools conduct vision screening four times a year, and once a child with poor vision is found, he or she will be admitted to the hospital for a formal examination. In order to prevent and control myopia, the whole society is also making efforts.

How to prevent myopia? Qing Huiling suggested that, first, we should pay attention to the diversification of diet and try to avoid sweets; second, correct bad eye habits, and suggest that children should do eye exercises, write one foot, one fist, one inch, and three 20s, read for 20 minutes, close their eyes for 20 seconds, and look into the distance for 20 seconds. Third, children should bask in the sun and do more outdoor activities, which will have a good effect on alleviating or controlling the degree of myopia. According to research, more than two hours outdoors every day, including walking to school, can effectively control the development of myopia.

How to detect myopia in children in time? Qing Huiling reminds parents that if children have habits such as blinking, tilting their heads, squinting, etc., they need to check their vision. After going to the hospital, they need to distinguish between true myopia and false myopia, identify them by dilating the pupils, and judge whether it is true myopia through biological indicators such as fundus and eye axis examination.

"Once it is true myopia, you need to wear glasses. At this time, parents often have some misunderstandings, such as children cannot take off glasses once they put them on, or their eyes are bulging. This is a misunderstanding. Wearing glasses is not the reason. The bulging eyes are caused by the increase in degree." Qing Huiling said.

Qing Huiling introduced that orthokeratology lenses are an effective way to control the degree of orthokeratology, but before wearing corneal lenses, you must do a full examination to understand whether the child has trichiasis, keratitis, dry eyes or other eye diseases before fitting. During the fitting process, you must try it on to see if it is suitable for this method. Some children are not suitable for wearing it. In addition, you must pay attention to eye hygiene during wearing and have regular checkups. Go to the hospital for regular checkups according to the doctor's advice. Once the child has red eyes, foreign objects or discomfort, be sure to go to the hospital for a checkup in time.

Qing Huiling said that there are many causes of dry eyes, and different treatments should be given to different causes. It is not a general concept. It is recommended that everyone first eat a reasonable diet, second pay attention to rest, and third, once dry eyes occur, go to the hospital for a regular examination, find out the cause, and then carry out symptomatic treatment.

Playing with mobile phones and watching videos for a long time will increase the burden on the shoulders and neck, reduce vision, and distract attention. Qing Huiling suggested that adults should also practice the "3 20s" with their children, and look into the distance for more than 20 seconds every 20 minutes of playing with mobile phones, which is good for protecting eyesight.
