Pingdom: 24% of the top 10,000 websites in the world use Facebook's official plug-in

Facebook

According to the latest report released by website monitoring service Pingdom, 24.3% of the top 10,000 websites in the world ranked by Alexa have integrated the official Facebook plug-in on their homepage. If the basic links pointing to Facebook are also counted, the number is as high as 49.3%. In addition, the proportion of websites that have integrated the official Facebook like button is 7.3%.

According to Pingdom's report, Facebook is clearly becoming "part of the DNA of the Internet" and is far ahead of its competitors. However, it is worth noting that the number of websites integrated with Facebook seems to have not changed much in the past year: a report released by BrightEdge around this time a year ago showed that 47% of the top 10,000 websites in the world had integrated Facebook's official plug-in.

Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn

According to Pingdom's report, Twitter is only displayed on the homepages of 10% of the top 10,000 websites, and 4.3% of the websites use Twitter's official sharing button. This seems to be a big gap with Facebook, but it is worth noting that the proportion of websites with links to Twitter is as high as 41.7%, which is comparable to Facebook.

The situation of Google+, which is strongly promoted by Google, is somewhat special. Pingdom's report shows that Google+'s homepage integration is quite good. Among the top 10,000 websites, 13% have placed Google's +1 button on their homepages, and 12.3% of the websites have links to plus.google.com. Pingdom believes that many website owners integrate Google+ only to improve their search engine rankings.

The figures for LinkedIn are pitifully small, with only 0.6% of websites integrating LinkedIn on their homepages, and only 0.3% using LinkedIn's official sharing button. Even if you include basic links to LinkedIn, the number of websites integrating LinkedIn is only 3.9%.

After comprehensively calculating the official plugins and basic links, Pingdom finally came up with the following rankings:

Facebook: 49.3%
Twitter: 41.7%
Google+: 21.5%
LinkedIn: 3.9%
