Picture of 6-month-old swollen vulva

Many pregnant women experience swelling of the vulva during pregnancy, which is very painful, especially when urinating. So, what is the reason for swelling of the vulva around six and a half months of pregnancy? In fact, swelling of the vulva during pregnancy is a normal reaction during pregnancy, and expectant mothers do not need to worry too much.

Vulvar swelling is physiological edema

The swelling of the vulva that pregnant women feel when urinating is also caused by compression of the veins and swelling of the veins in the private parts. Because the abdominal pressure increases during urination, the blood vessels are under increased stress, the uterus sinks, and the fetal head presses on the pelvic wall, which temporarily blocks the venous return of the vulva, causing varicose veins in the private parts and causing a feeling of swelling.

Physiological edema has no effect on the fetus

Many expectant mothers worry that physiological edema is caused by obstruction of venous return, so will it have any impact on the fetus? In fact, since it is physiological, it is a weather phenomenon during pregnancy and has no effect on the fetus.

Around six and a half months into pregnancy, the uterus gradually expands and is prone to edema after being compressed by the inferior vena cava. So, what should we do at this stage?

1) Proper rest Proper rest, standing up and walking less often will increase blood flow back to the lower limbs and relieve or eliminate edema.

2) Wear tight clothes. Wearing tight clothes will cause poor blood circulation and cause swelling. Therefore, expectant mothers should wear loose clothes as much as possible during pregnancy.

3) Raise the legs. It is recommended that expectant mothers raise their legs for 15 to 20 minutes before going to bed (or taking a nap). This can have the dual effect of accelerating blood flow back and relieving venous gas pressure. It can not only reduce edema in pregnant women, but also prevent the occurrence of varicose veins in the lower limbs and other diseases.

The vulva swells around six and a half months of pregnancy. This is actually a normal reaction to pregnancy and expectant mothers do not need to worry too much. Moreover, physiological edema can be quickly recovered within a few days after giving birth through urination and sweating. Well, that’s all I have to say about vulvar swelling after pregnancy.
