Recently, dengue fever outbreaks have been reported in several Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Malaysia.

On June 8, the General Administration of Customs issued an official statement reminding people that dengue fever has broken out in many countries recently, and reminded the general public to be vigilant against the spread of dengue fever.

Dengue fever is an acute mosquito-borne infectious disease caused by the dengue virus, which is mainly transmitted through the bites of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. There is currently no specific drug, so we must be vigilant.

How is dengue fever transmitted?

Dengue fever is widely prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions, and is more common in the summer and autumn rainy seasons. In my country, it mainly occurs in Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.

The general population is susceptible to dengue. Currently, there are four known dengue virus serotypes, all of which can infect humans and cause dengue fever or dengue hemorrhagic fever. Infection with type 2 causes a higher rate of severe illness and mortality than other types. Infection with heterotypes or multiple different types of dengue viruses greatly increases the risk of developing severe dengue fever.

After infection, immunity to the same type of virus can last for many years, but immunity to different types of viruses is short-lived and cannot form effective protection. There is a possibility of being infected with other types again after being infected with one type.

Generally speaking, dengue fever has a good prognosis. During the epidemic, patients are mainly mild cases and asymptomatic carriers. The vast majority of deaths are severe, with the main cause of death being central respiratory failure. The case fatality rate is about 0.3 per 10,000.

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is a severe type of dengue fever. Its onset is similar to that of typical dengue fever. After 2-5 days of fever, the condition suddenly worsens, with massive bleeding in multiple organs and shock. The mortality rate is high and it is more common in children.

What is the difference between dengue and flu?

The typical symptoms of dengue fever are fever accompanied by "three reds and three pains" ("three reds" are red face, red eyes, and red rash on the trunk and limbs; "three pains" are headache, eye socket pain, and muscle and joint pain).

Dengue and Flu:

Dengue fever and influenza have similar symptoms such as fever, runny nose, nasal congestion, sore throat, headache, fatigue, etc.

Dengue fever has typical symptoms such as red face, red eyes, and rash on the trunk and limbs. Respiratory symptoms are relatively mild, and muscle and joint pains are relatively obvious.

If you have symptoms suspected of dengue fever, it is recommended that you go to the hospital as soon as possible. If you have been to a dengue fever-endemic area within half a month before the onset of the disease, please tell your doctor.

How to treat dengue fever?

There is no specific treatment for dengue fever, and the main treatment options are supportive and symptomatic.

For example, during the acute phase, patients should rest in bed, eat a liquid or semi-liquid diet, and be isolated from mosquitoes until the course of illness exceeds 5 days and the fever has subsided for more than 24 hours;

Strengthen care for severe cases, keep the mouth and skin clean and bowel movements unobstructed, give priority to physical cooling in case of high fever, use analgesics and antipyretics with caution, give oral rehydration in time for patients with excessive sweating, vomiting or diarrhea, and use hemostatic drugs for those with bleeding tendency.

How to prevent dengue infection?

Because there is no mature dengue vaccine on the market in China, the prevention and control of dengue fever still relies on preventing and killing the vector Aedes mosquito (commonly known as the spotted mosquito).

To avoid direct confrontation with mosquitoes, try to avoid going to shaded areas such as trees and grass where mosquitoes often live. If you must go there, it is recommended to wear light-colored long-sleeved clothes and long pants to reduce skin exposure. Use effective mosquito repellent products (containing active ingredients such as DEET and chlorpyrifos) on exposed areas according to the instructions.

To prevent mosquitoes from entering and leaving at will, it is recommended to install mosquito-proof facilities such as screen doors and windows or use mosquito nets;

To prevent mosquitoes from gathering in groups, units or community property management should standardize mosquito control, ensure the quality of mosquito control, and reduce the risk of dengue fever transmission. Individuals can always have electric mosquito swatters or insecticides to kill adult mosquitoes around them at any time;

Mosquitoes mainly come from the stagnant water around us. In order to avoid mosquito breeding, it is recommended to completely clear the stagnant water around you.

● Wash: Change the water regularly to wash the rhizomes and brush the bottle wall – wash, brush, brush;
