Gout equals "pain madness"? You must pay attention to these foods!

People who have experienced it all have this feeling: the painful area cannot be touched at all, and once touched it will hurt for a long time, sleep is very poor, and spirits are not good.

Gout is not uncommon. It has become the second largest metabolic disease in my country after diabetes. Moreover, gout is becoming more prevalent and younger in incidence.

According to the 2017 "White Paper on the Current Status of Gout in China", the number of patients with hyperuricemia in my country has reached 170 million, and the number of gout patients has exceeded 80 million.

Look, the Chinese New Year is just a few days away, and gout patients will inevitably have many “delicious meals”.

However, there may be some foods that are not very friendly to gout (and there are quite a few of them), so today I will help you avoid them and tell you which ones you should eat.

How does “gout”, which begins with “pain”, come about?

Gout is an arthritis disease, and high uric acid in the blood is the cause of gout.

Because when the uric acid concentration in the blood exceeds a certain level (420 μmol/L for men and 360 μmol/L for women), sodium urate crystals will precipitate. These crystals will accumulate in the cartilage, soft tissue, kidneys and joints, causing pain.

There are two sources of uric acid in the human body. One is the part synthesized by the body, and the other is the uric acid produced by the metabolism of purine in food.

If purine metabolism is disordered and uric acid excretion is blocked or reduced, uric acid will naturally become high.

Purine (piào lìng) is a product of the decomposition of nucleotides (a component of DNA) and is found in almost all foods. Generally speaking, purine is oxidized into uric acid in the human body, which in turn aggravates hyperuricemia and increases the risk of gout attacks.

Therefore, people with high uric acid and gout patients should eat less foods high in purine.

So the question is, which foods are high in purine?

Purines come from nucleotides in the cell nucleus, so foods with more cells have higher purine content, such as organs and muscle tissues with active metabolism.

Generally speaking, the comparison of purine in food is as follows: meat foods > plant foods > dairy products.

In order to make your choice intuitive, we divide different foods into four levels based on the purine content per 100g of food:

Careful friends will find that the purine content of beans is significantly higher among plant foods.

Some studies currently believe that soybeans can enhance uric acid excretion, but some studies have also shown that eating tofu and soy milk can easily cause gout attacks.

Therefore, beans and soy products are neither encouraged nor restricted.

Although fructose does not contain purine, its metabolism in the body consumes a large amount of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which will promote the synthesis of uric acid in the body, thereby increasing the risk of gout.
