A junior boy's vision suddenly dropped after rubbing his eyes. It turned out to be caused by this disease.

Rubbing your eyes with your hands can actually lead to decreased vision. Experts remind people of this: be careful not to rub your eyes.

Xiaohao, 21, is from Anhui and is currently a junior student in Wuhan. Five years ago, Xiaohao found that his left eye vision had deteriorated. He thought it was just myopia caused by overuse of his eyes, so he went to an optical shop to get glasses. But after the eye test, he still couldn't see clearly, and Xiaohao didn't care at the time.

It was not until two months ago that Xiao Hao rubbed his eyes and his vision suddenly decreased, accompanied by eye pain, tearing and other discomforts, that he went to the hospital for treatment. After examination, Xiao Hao's right eye vision was 0.02, corrected vision was 0.8, and the left eye anterior index and corrected vision did not improve. He was diagnosed with keratoconus in both eyes, with the right eye in the progressive stage and the left eye in the acute edema stage.

After systematic examinations such as corneal topography, the doctor said that Xiaohao needed surgery on both eyes, but because he rubbed his eyes, the cornea of his left eye was in an edematous stage, so he had to wait until the edema disappeared before surgery. Corneal collagen cross-linking surgery could be performed on the right eye.

In order to prevent the progression of keratoconus, doctors designed a deep lamellar keratoplasty for him. This surgical plan removes the diseased cornea as much as possible while retaining the endothelium and elastic layer of the cornea, which can greatly reduce the rejection and endothelial decompensation caused by penetrating keratoplasty. Through the Wuhan Red Cross Aier Eye Bank, a precious cornea donor was allocated for him. On December 15, Xiaohao underwent a deep lamellar keratoplasty on his left eye under general anesthesia. After learning about Xiaohao's family difficulties, the hospital also applied for a 10,000 yuan eye care charity fund for him.

"Keratoconus is an eye disease characterized by the cornea's central or paracentral expansion and thinning, and a cone-shaped protrusion forward, which often causes highly irregular astigmatism, and in the late stage, significantly reduces vision and causes blindness; some patients will experience acute corneal edema, and scars will remain after the edema subsides." Doctors remind that the cornea of patients with keratoconus is very fragile, and violent eye rubbing may aggravate the condition and cause greater damage to vision. If there is a sudden decrease in vision, and wearing frame glasses cannot correct it, you should be highly vigilant and go to a professional ophthalmology hospital in time for early detection, early intervention and early treatment.
