How to clean wax apple

1. Soaking and washing: Washing is the basic method to remove other dirt and residual pesticides from vegetables and fruits. Generally, wash away the surface dirt with water first, then soak in clean water for no less than 10 minutes. For heart-shaped vegetables, cut them first, soak them in clean water for 1-2 hours, and then rinse them with clean water to eliminate residual pesticides. If a small amount of detergent or fruit and vegetable cleaner is added during soaking, the effect will be better.

2. Alkaline water soaking method: Organophosphorus pesticides decompose rapidly in an alkaline environment, so this method is an effective measure to remove pesticide pollution. It can be used for all kinds of vegetables, fruits and melons. First, rinse the surface dirt, soak in alkaline water (usually add 5 to 10 grams of alkaline noodles to 500 ml of water) for 5 to 15 minutes, and then rinse with clean water 3 to 5 times.

3. Heating method: As the temperature rises, the decomposition of carbamate pesticides accelerates. Therefore, for some vegetables and fruits that are difficult to handle by other methods, some pesticides can be removed by heating, such as celery, beans, green peppers, etc. The method is to first wash the surface dirt with clean water, put it in boiling water for 2-5 minutes and then take it out. According to experiments, this method can remove more than 50%-90% of pesticide residues. However, this method is easy to lose the nutrition of vegetables.

Where does wax apple grow?

1. Where do you grow?

Wax apple grows in Guangdong, Yunnan, Hainan, Fujian and Guangxi in my country. It has a particularly long history of cultivation in Taiwan, and the planting area is also relatively large. It has good adaptability, so it can survive in sandy soil, red soil, clay soil, or alkaline soil.

2. Morphological characteristics

Wax apple is a relatively common fruit. It belongs to a tree. The fruit skin is magenta and slightly shiny. It is pear-shaped and conical. It is not very big, only 4-5cm long. Its tip is slightly concave. The fruit matures in July and August.

3. Growth habits

1. It is very afraid of severe cold weather, and the temperature suitable for its growth is 25-30℃. If the cultivation temperature is 7℃, its flower buds and young fruits will fall due to the low temperature.

2. It has a high demand for water, and the moisture content in the soil must be sufficient. It also has a certain degree of waterlogging resistance, so it can survive even in areas that are often flooded.

What are the conditions for growing wax apples?

1. Planting:

The best planting period is generally spring and autumn, and it should not be too late. Avoid planting in high or low temperatures or in drought seasons. Syzygium grows fast and has a long lifespan. In order to obtain high and stable yields per unit area in the early stage, it is usually cultivated in wide rows and dense plants. The planting density should be comprehensively considered according to the variety, terrain, soil, and climate conditions, and the specific analysis should be made.

2. Pruning:

The natural round-head pruning method is suitable for the syzygium. After planting, leave a main trunk, cut off the upper end 60 cm from the ground, and pull out 3 to 4 new branches, allowing them to grow naturally to become the main branches.

3. Fertilizer and water:

Syzygium wilfordii grows fast and requires a lot of fertilizer. For 1 to 4-year-old trees, quick-acting fertilizers are generally used. In the early stage, more nitrogen and potassium fertilizers are applied, and a ring ditch is dug at the drip line of the tree crown for fertilization; nitrogen fertilizers should not be applied much during the flower bud differentiation period.

4. Thinning flowers and fruits:

Syzygium wilfordii has a large number of flowers and fruits, so the flower spikes at the branch ends should be thinned out first. Keep 1 to 2 pairs of flower spikes on large branches. Thin out overcrowded flower spikes; bag the flower spikes when they are about 2 cm long, which can improve the fruit quality and prevent fruit flies from damaging them.
