Will myopia relapse after surgery?

Will myopia relapse after surgery?

Many people often ask whether myopia will rebound after surgery. The answer is no. Whether it is laser corneal refractive surgery or ICL intraocular lens implantation, the surgery itself will not rebound.

Deputy Director of Zhengzhou Aier Eye Hospital,

You Changtao, director of the Refractive Center, tells you

Why does a rebound exist?

You Changtao, deputy director of Zhengzhou Aier Eye Hospital and director of the Refractive Center, said: Generally speaking, if you strictly follow the doctor's advice and pay attention to eye use after surgery, there will be no rebound. The rebound mentioned by some people mainly comes from the following two reasons:

First, during the process of corneal wound healing after surgery, the corneal morphology is reshaped. These rebounds are related to corneal wound healing and repair, and vision can basically stabilize in 1-3 months.

Secondly, it is also very important for patients to develop scientific eye habits after surgery. For example, if a patient corrects 500 degrees of myopia through myopia surgery, it is like buying a piece of clothing that fits after adulthood. If you do not grow taller or gain weight suddenly, then the clothing itself can be worn all the time, and there is no such thing as rebound after surgery.

And if you develop myopia again after surgery, you can still choose surgery to correct it if you meet the requirements after a systematic examination at a professional ophthalmology hospital.

So how to prevent postoperative rebound?

You Changtao, deputy director of Zhengzhou Aier Eye Hospital and director of the Refractive Center, said: Under normal circumstances, it is recommended that adults over 18 years old undergo myopia surgery (except in special circumstances). Relatively speaking, it is not recommended for adolescents who still need to use their eyes intensively and whose myopia degree is unstable, or for myopic patients whose degree deepens by more than 50 degrees each year, to undergo myopia surgery.

In addition, you must pay attention to healthy eye use after surgery. Regardless of whether you have surgery or not, not paying attention to eye use will cause eye health problems. Protect your eyes after myopia surgery, use medication reasonably according to the doctor's advice, and have regular checkups in the later stage, and good vision can be maintained.
