Can I breastfeed if I have a cold during breastfeeding?

If you catch a cold or fever during breastfeeding, it is recommended not to take medicine for treatment if the symptoms are not severe. You can use diet therapy, such as boiling cabbage hearts and radishes in water, or boiling ginger slices, scallions, and brown sugar in water. If dietary therapy is ineffective, medication may be required, such as Pueraria lobata anti-inflammatory concentrate, oil, and Isatis root granules. These two medicines can be used safely during the breastfeeding period. If the cold symptoms still cannot be alleviated after taking the medicine, you need to go to the hospital for treatment immediately.

Colds are caused by viruses, which are mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract. There is generally no virus in breast milk, so breastfeeding is allowed. But you must pay attention to respiratory isolation and wear a mask for protection. In addition, it should be noted that the probability of influenza virus itself being transmitted through breast milk is not high, but cold medicines may affect the baby. If it is during the medication period, breastfeeding is not recommended as it may affect the baby. Antiviral drugs can be used with Shuanghuanglian oral liquid, and bacterial infections can be treated with penicillin, which has little impact on breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding is not recommended. Colds are respiratory inflammatory changes caused by pathogens such as bacteria or viruses. Viruses or bacteria and their metabolites are in the blood and there are also a lot of them in breast milk. The baby's immune system is relatively low, and a small amount of harmful substances can easily cause illness, so you must be extra careful. It is recommended that mothers treat the cold first, drink plenty of water, exercise moderately, eat less spicy and irritating foods, drink some ginger and sugar water to help sweat, promote recovery from colds, and try not to take medicine, as drug metabolism will also affect the quality of breast milk.

When a breastfeeding mother catches a cold, if the symptoms are mild, without fever, dizziness, palpitations, chest tightness and other symptoms, she can continue breastfeeding. She should wear a mask when caring for the newborn and keep the living environment clean. If the mother's cold lasts more than 7 days and is accompanied by fever, dizziness, chest tightness, shortness of breath, fatigue and other symptoms, you can temporarily stop breastfeeding and go to the hospital for medical treatment in time. If the child has symptoms related to fever and cold, you can continue to breastfeed the child and give him/her acetaminophen granules orally to relieve the symptoms.
