What does butter tea taste like?

Butter tea is a kind of drink that Tibetan friends use to entertain guests. Its main ingredient is tea, and then butter, salt, etc. are added. For people who don't have this kind of tea, the taste is undoubtedly very strange, or even unacceptable. Butter is actually extracted by Tibetan people from goat milk or cow milk, with a ratio of about one hundred to five, so butter is still very precious. In the eyes of many people, tea not only quenches thirst but also relieves greasiness, but tea with butter feels greasy and has a special taste. Many people from the mainland are not used to it. But under the hospitality of the enthusiastic Tibetans, you can't help but refuse. When you take the second sip, you will completely subvert your first sip of perception of butter tea, and you will feel that butter tea is salty and fragrant, and the taste is very mellow!

How to drink butter tea

Tibetans often use butter tea to entertain guests, and they have a set of rules for drinking butter tea. When the guest is asked to sit at the Tibetan square table, the host will take a wooden bowl (or teacup) and place it in front of the guest. Then the host (or housewife) picks up the butter teapot (now often replaced by a thermos bottle), shakes it a few times, and pours a full bowl of butter tea for the guest. The guest does not drink the butter immediately after it is poured, but chats with the host first. When the host picks up the butter teapot again and stands in front of the guest, the guest can pick up the bowl, blow gently in the butter bowl to blow away the oil floating on the tea, then take a sip and praise: "This butter tea is really well made, the oil and tea are inseparable." The guest puts the bowl back on the table, and the host fills it up again. In this way, you drink and add more tea, and you will finish it in one day. The enthusiastic host will always fill the guest's tea bowl; if you don't want to drink more, don't touch it; if you drink half of it and don't want to drink anymore, the host will fill the bowl and you can leave it; when the guest is ready to leave, he can drink a few more sips, but he can't drink it all, and there should be some tea oil in the bowl. This is in line with Tibetan customs and etiquette.
