Danger! Don't look up when you have a nosebleed! A boy died because of this...

"A forehead splashed with cold water"

"Paper stuffed in nostrils"

All of this is evidence of our battle against nosebleeds.

Every time I try to raise my head to stop the bleeding

It makes people feel sad and want to laugh

Nosebleed seems to be a trivial matter.

But if it is not handled properly

It's easy to have big problems

Recently, a 3-year-old boy in Hunan raised his head to try to stop the bleeding from his nose, but the blood flowed to his throat, forming a clot that blocked his trachea. When he was sent to the hospital, his face turned blue and he eventually died.

The video became a hot search as soon as it came out

It has attracted widespread attention from netizens

Is it the correct way to stop nosebleed by tilting your head back?

Why does our nose bleed?

What is the correct way to deal with it?

If you don't know yet

Let me study with you today

01

Why does the nose bleed?

Nosebleeds are caused by rupture of blood vessels in the nasal mucosa.

There are many reasons for nosebleeds, which can be roughly divided into the following categories:

01

trauma

Nosebleeds caused by trauma are common. The blood vessels in the nasal mucosa are relatively fragile. For example, if we accidentally hit our noses while playing ball, the blood vessels may rupture and cause nosebleeds.

02

Climate factors

The weather is relatively hot in summer. In autumn, the indoor air in many northern cities is relatively dry or the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor is relatively large after heating. These climatic factors will irritate the nasal mucosa and cause nosebleeds.

03

Bad habits

Some people may often pick their noses with their fingers, rub their noses when washing their faces, or engage in strenuous exercise, etc. These bad habits may cause rupture of nasal blood vessels and cause bleeding.

04

Individual factors

Some people have more blood vessels in their nasal cavity, which is more sensitive. Even slight collisions and vibrations, such as sneezing, can cause nasal bleeding.

05

Localized disease

Some local diseases such as rhinitis or foreign bodies in the nose such as nasal polyps and nasopharyngeal tumors can also cause nosebleeds.

06

Systemic diseases

Some systemic diseases, such as high blood pressure, malignant tumors, etc., can also cause nosebleeds. Therefore, if the amount of bleeding is large or the nosebleeds are frequent, the possibility of systemic diseases should be considered, and it is recommended to seek medical attention in time to find out the primary cause.

02

Are these methods of stopping bleeding wrong?

When we were young, we must have heard of or even used many "folk remedies", such as tilting our heads back, plugging our nostrils with paper balls, raising our hands high, patting our foreheads with cold water, etc.

In fact, these "folk remedies" are unscientific and may sometimes backfire.

!

Look up

As we all know, our nose, throat, pharynx, stomach and other organs are all connected.

When we have a nosebleed, if we tilt our head back, the blood in our nostrils may flow back into our throat, causing us to cough.

It flows into the stomach, irritates the gastrointestinal tract, and causes nausea, vomiting and other discomforts. The bloody smell may linger for a long time.

It flows into the trachea and lungs, causing aspiration pneumonia or even suffocation, which is life-threatening.

!

Paper ball

We use paper balls to plug the nostrils, but the plugged location is not necessarily the bleeding location, and the amount of bleeding may increase.

Moreover, dryness and external force are the factors that induce nasal bleeding. On the one hand, plugging the nostrils with paper balls will aggravate the dry environment in the nasal cavity.

On the other hand, it is easy to cause damage to the nasal mucosa during the process of insertion and removal, aggravating the bleeding.

At the same time, the hygiene levels of ordinary household toilet paper vary greatly. Stuffing a ball of paper into a bleeding nostril may induce infection.

!

Raise your hands high and pat your forehead with cold water

These two methods may be nonsense. After all, "distant water cannot quench near thirst"! The hands and forehead are far away from the nose. Even if cold water can shrink the pores, it may not affect the blood vessels in the nasal cavity.

03

What is the correct way to deal with it?

Calm down: Most patients with nosebleeds have mild symptoms, and the bleeding will stop within a period of time after proper treatment. Therefore, when nosebleeds occur, we must first relax and stay calm.

Sit upright: Find a chair and sit quietly, avoiding moving your body.

Lower your head: Lean forward slightly and then lower your head instead of looking up.

Pinch the nose: Pinch both sides of our nose with your fingers, and squeeze from the front to the back of the head for 5-10 minutes. If the bleeding has not stopped, move the position of your fingers and squeeze again.

Open mouth: Open your mouth and breathe through your mouth instead of your nose.

Blood cleaning: If blood accidentally flows into our throat, we must spit it out in time to prevent coughing, suffocation, etc.

Ice compress: Apply a small ice pack to our nose to stimulate the contraction of blood vessels in the nasal cavity and reduce bleeding.

Don't take nosebleeds lightly.

Improper handling can cause many problems
