Girls suddenly stop menstruating

Girls suddenly stop menstruating

For some women, menstruation is an important factor in measuring physical health in daily life. But some women find that for some unknown reason, they suddenly stop menstruating. In fact, this is the case. If you don’t have your period, the first thing you should consider is whether it’s caused by pregnancy. If pregnancy is ruled out, then it is likely caused by the following five reasons.

Reasons why girls suddenly stop having menstruation

1. Excessive stress can cause endocrine disorders

Being under stress for a long time will inhibit the function of the hypothalamus-pituitary gland, causing the ovaries to no longer secrete female hormones and ovulate, and menstruation will begin to become disordered. Similarly, long-term psychological depression, sulking or bad mood can also affect menstruation and cause amenorrhea.

In addition, dieting or eating too little fat will reduce estrogen secretion in the body in the long run, which in turn may cause delayed menstruation or even no menstruation.

2. Drug side effects cause delayed menstruation

Side effects of medications may also cause menstruation to stop. If taken improperly, contraceptive pills may cause endocrine disorders and delayed menstruation. According to patients, the new generation of gastrokinetic drug metoclopramide, also known as domperidone, may also cause delayed menstruation.

3. Pregnancy is the main cause of amenorrhea

If you have had sexual intercourse recently and your period is more than 7 days late than usual, you should consider whether you are pregnant. You can use early pregnancy test strips to test. If you are not sure, it is recommended to go to the hospital for confirmation. In addition, if you are pregnant, there will be other symptoms such as nausea, breast tenderness, etc.

4. Surgery causes cervical adhesion

For example, intrauterine surgery may cause cervical adhesions and lead to menstrual blood stasis, while abortion surgery may also delay menstruation.

5. Other factors such as tobacco and alcohol

Drug abuse, tobacco and alcohol, and placement of contraceptive rings may all lead to amenorrhea. If menstruation is delayed only 1-2 times occasionally and there are no other accompanying symptoms, it does not fall into the category of menstrual disorders. When the interval between menstrual cycles is more than 35 days, it is called oligomenorrhea, and when menstruation stops for more than 3 menstrual cycles, it is called amenorrhea. The absence of ovulation after amenorrhea can also lead to problems such as osteoporosis and endometrial hyperplasia, which must be taken seriously.
