A friend asked Huazi if her mother had a mild stroke and whether it could be cured. She said her mother had been ill a week ago and had received acupuncture and cupping treatment at a private clinic, but the condition became worse and worse. At first, she could still walk and hold her child, but now she can hardly get out of bed, can't even hold chopsticks steadily, and her memory is getting worse and worse. Huazi advised her to go to a regular hospital for treatment as soon as possible. Private clinics do not have the conditions to rescue acute stroke. Only large comprehensive hospitals can provide correct treatment without delaying the disease. 1. Go to the hospital if you have stroke symptoms. Cerebral stroke is also called cerebral infarction. 20% of them are hemorrhagic stroke (cerebral hemorrhage) and 80% are ischemic stroke (cerebral infarction). Both will cause the death of brain nerve cells, and the clinical symptoms are very similar. Only CT or MRI examinations can correctly identify them and take the correct treatment. However, most private clinics do not have CT or MRI equipment and are unable to make a clear diagnosis. Moreover, patients with acute cerebral infarction may need thrombolytic therapy, and patients with acute cerebral hemorrhage may need craniotomy, which are difficult to provide in small clinics. In addition, the "time window" for emergency treatment of acute stroke is only 6 hours. Large hospitals rely on close cooperation among multiple departments to save more brain cells in the shortest time and minimize the damage to the patient's brain. 2. "Mini-stroke" may be a precursor to cerebral infarction Half of the patients with cerebral infarction will experience symptoms of "mini-stroke" 2-3 days before the onset of the disease, such as transient blacking out of the eyes, weakness of one side of the foot when walking, mouth corner tilted to one side, sudden weakness of one side of the arm, unclear speech, sudden increase in forgetfulness, inability to recognize words when reading, and inability to understand what others are saying when talking. These symptoms last for a very short time, which may be a few hours, a few minutes, or just a moment of "being stunned". The patient will return to normal very quickly, so they are easily ignored. However, the appearance of these "mini-stroke" symptoms means that the brain has experienced transient ischemia, indicating that the cerebral blood vessels have been severely narrowed or the plaques have been slightly ruptured, and it is very likely that blood clots have begun to form, and more serious cerebral infarction may occur in the short term. Therefore, if you have symptoms of transient cerebral ischemia, don't ignore it just because it lasts for a short time. As long as you find yourself or your relatives and friends with such symptoms, you must go to the hospital in time, do a detailed examination, and take medicine under the guidance of a doctor to prevent more serious illness. Cerebral hemorrhage usually has no warning signs, but it often occurs when you are emotionally excited or engaging in strenuous activities, because emotional excitement and strenuous activities can cause a sudden rise in blood pressure, and blood vessels cannot withstand the pressure and will rupture and bleed. Therefore, controlling blood pressure, keeping emotions stable, avoiding heavy physical activities, avoiding strenuous exercise, and avoiding straining during bowel movements can prevent cerebral hemorrhage. 3. What to do after a mild stroke When a stroke occurs, the initial symptoms may be mild, but they will progress over time. Cerebral hemorrhage progresses quickly, reaching its peak within a few hours, while cerebral infarction progresses more slowly, reaching its peak within about 3 days. So don't take it lightly just because the condition is mild at the beginning. No matter how severe the symptoms are, you must go to the hospital immediately if they occur. Because the "6 hours" of rescue time is calculated from the time the symptoms first appear, not after the condition worsens. With timely rescue, there is a high probability that no serious sequelae will remain, and a higher quality of life can be guaranteed. If sequelae occur, the only means of recovery is rehabilitation training. As long as the acute phase (about 1 week) is over, rehabilitation training should be carried out under the guidance of a rehabilitation doctor. Generally speaking, as long as the patient's muscle strength is not level 0, they can recover well after rehabilitation training. The recovery process can be long or short, depending on the age, physical condition, and severity of each patient. Recovery progress is fastest within one year after the onset of the disease, and some patients with severe conditions need longer recovery exercises. It should be noted that the key to successful rehabilitation treatment is that the patient needs to build up his or her confidence in recovery and the perseverance to stick to it. Many patients give up on themselves, which ultimately leads to the failure of rehabilitation treatment. In summary, when symptoms of transient cerebral ischemia (mini-stroke) appear, you need to seek medical treatment in time to prevent more serious cerebral stroke. For acute stroke, you need to go to a large hospital for better treatment. After the disease, rehabilitation training under the guidance of a rehabilitation doctor and building up confidence and perseverance are the keys to defeating the disease.
