Can rapeseed be topped? When is the best time to top rapeseed?

Rapeseed is a major oil crop in my country and is grown in the Huaihe River and Yangtze River regions. For soil with good fertility, more fertilizer, strong seedling growth, early sowing, strong seedling growth, and sparse planting density, it can be appropriately topped, which has a certain effect on increasing production. If the rapeseed grows poorly, it is not suitable to top it.

Can rapeseed be tipped?

Rapeseed can be topped. The purpose of topping is to make it stronger, have more forks, and produce more rapeseed. As for when to top it, it depends on the growth of your own rapeseed. Basically, you can top it when the rapeseed sprouts grow.

Rapeseed is mostly cultivated from August to September. It is not allowed to be too dense. Too dense is not conducive to the growth of branches, affecting fertilizer efficiency and ventilation. Even if it grows, the pods are few and the seeds are thin, which is the same as sparse wheat. After a few months of growth, it is generally removed in the first month of the lunar year. Rapeseed with a moss is not only thin in skin and thick in heart, but also cannot resist the cold because it is too early. We often say "the Qingming Festival stops snow and the Grain Rain stops frost". The flower needles will freeze to death, and the wind will break them off with the roots. Even if they are not removed, it is useless, just like throwing away a bag of chaff, and the income will be greatly reduced. Rapeseed with moss removed has more branches, strong roots, large pods and thick seeds, just in time for the season.

When is the best time to pick rapeseed?

Rapeseed can be topped, but it should be topped when the height is less than 40 cm. This is beneficial for the rapeseed to have multiple branches and to make it more luxuriant after growth. The best distance between planting rows is about 40 to 50 cm to prevent the rapeseed from having too many branches and being unable to develop. This will cause the rapeseed grains to be incomplete. The rapeseed moss can be pinched for the first time when it has five or six leaves. The price of the head moss will be higher and the head moss will be relatively large. It can be pinched for about two months. Don't pinch it when there are flower buds in spring. Some rapeseed varieties can have their moss pinched, while others cannot. It is better to consult the seed seller.

What is the role of rapeseed tipping

In addition to increasing yield, correct topping can also prevent lodging, reduce diseases and promote uniform maturity.

For plots suitable for tipping, it is advisable to do it when the moss is 13-23 cm high, and remove 3-5 cm of moss stems, and 7-10 cm of cabbage-shaped moss stems. Tipping should be done in batches on sunny days, and it is not advisable to tip when a cold wave comes. When tipping, you can pick more of the moss that is tall, and pick less of the moss that is short.

The fundamental reason for the early bolting of rapeseed is that some early-maturing and early-mid-maturing varieties with strong spring characteristics are sown too early. Since these varieties do not strictly require low temperature conditions for rapeseed to pass the vernalization stage, early-sown mid-maturing varieties will bud, bolt and bloom after reaching a certain amount of vegetative growth before winter. Early bolting and flowering are susceptible to frost damage. Late spring cold is prone to occur in the southwest. Therefore, if the proportion of early flowers and early bolts in a rapeseed field is too large, it is easy to be damaged by frost in the late spring cold climate, which will cause certain losses to the yield.
