Is alum root a perennial plant? What kind of soil is best for growing alum root?

Alumroot, also known as coral bell, is a cold-resistant plant. It is a landscape plant abroad, but now many people in China also grow it. Because its leaves have various colors, it is also suitable for decoration. So what kind of soil should be used to grow alumroot?

Is alum root a perennial?

Alumroot is a perennial plant with many flower colors. Most importantly, it is very cold-resistant and can grow at temperatures around minus 10 degrees Celsius. It can be safely planted outdoors in the south, but it is relatively difficult to grow in summer.

Alumroot is a shade-tolerant plant, so it must not be exposed to direct sunlight or exposure in the summer, and should be placed in a cool and ventilated place to keep it cool as much as possible. In other seasons, it can be exposed to sunlight all day. Don't water it too much in the summer. It is also time to water it when the soil is dry. The same applies to other seasons.

Alum roots can be planted in loose soil or garden soil. Alum roots do not require much fertilizer, and compound fertilizer is the main fertilizer. Apply it once a month and dilute it.

What kind of soil is good for growing alum root?

The most important thing for growing alum root is the air permeability of the soil. The soil suitable for the growth of succulents is the most suitable soil for the growth of alum root. Therefore, in the cultivation of alum root, the soil preparation must have good air permeability, and fertile and neutral acidic soil is most suitable.

It is recommended to take garden soil or tree soil, peat soil, sawdust, river sand or coal briquette residue in a ratio of 5:2:1:2 and mix them.

The most attractive part of the alum root is its leaves, no matter the season, its leaves change with the seasons, so that's why it is a favorite place. If you want it to look better, as long as there is a big temperature difference between morning and evening, the color will be deeper.

After planting, be sure to add 1% ferrous sulfate to improve soil structure and pH value, which is suitable for the growth and development of alum roots. You can also use fermented rice washing water.

How to care for alum root

Alumroot does not require much light and is shade-tolerant. Generally, when we maintain it, we only need to provide it with a bright and ventilated environment, or a semi-shady environment will not affect its growth. Moreover, the cold resistance of alumroot is quite good, and temperatures above minus ten degrees Celsius in winter will not affect its growth.

In addition, the alum root is afraid of waterlogging. It cannot tolerate long-term waterlogging. In hot summer weather, water evaporates quickly. We still determine the watering frequency based on the dryness of the pot soil. When the surface of the pot soil shows signs of dryness, we water it thoroughly, but be sure not to accumulate water. If it is maintained in a tray, the excess water in the tray should be poured out in time, so as not to affect the normal breathing of the root system. In winter, when the temperature is very low, the watering frequency should be gradually reduced. Do not water unless it is dry. Just keep the pot soil slightly moist.
