What grade should I choose for refueling my car? Is the higher the grade of the oil, the better?

When we pass by a gas station, we will find that each gas station will be marked with 92#, 93#, 95#, etc. These are the gasoline grades, and gasoline with different grades is also different. So which gasoline grade is better to choose for refueling the car? Don't be afraid of choosing difficulties, because there are also some rules for choosing gasoline grades. Let's learn about it together!

What grade should I choose when refueling my car?

No. 92, No. 95 and No. 98 are the three most common oil grades we see at gas stations.

Generally, the car owner's manual and the fuel tank cap will have a recommendation on which gasoline grade to use for refueling. It is best to refuel according to the gasoline grade marked on the cap, which is the most suitable for the vehicle engine.

However, you must not add gasoline with a lower octane rating than the recommended one. For example, if the label recommends adding 95 octane gasoline, you must not add 92 octane gasoline.

Is it better to refuel your car with a higher grade of oil?

There are three common car oil numbers: 92, 95, and 98. The difference between these three types of gasoline is the anti-knock ability and octane number. The largest oil number has the strongest anti-knock ability, so 98 has the strongest anti-knock ability.

So what is detonation?

Normally, when a mixture of oil and air enters the engine, the piston compresses them, and the spark plug ignites these high-pressure mixtures, and the energy generated by their combustion and explosion is converted into the energy required for the engine to run. However, due to the principles of friction and heating, sometimes these mixtures do not require the participation of spark plugs. This abnormal self-ignition phenomenon is called detonation.

If you blindly choose the oil with the highest oil number, it will affect the life of the engine over time. Some more expensive cars have engines with higher compression ratios and strong power, which require higher engine combustion quality. Therefore, you need to add oil with a higher oil number.

How much gas should you add to your car?

It is easy to fill up half or two-thirds of the tank in the city. If it is inconvenient to refuel, just fill up the tank. Because the tank is usually only about 95% full when the tank is full. But don't fill up when the tank is empty, as it may damage the pump. If the car is traveling long distances, you can fill up the tank; if you drive in the city for a long time, if refueling is convenient, you can fill up to 6 or 7 layers each time.

Never wait until the gas is almost used up before refilling. You can refill when there is a quarter of gas left in the tank.
