Sleeping position during pregnancy does not have much impact on the fetal position, but after the second and third trimesters, it is best to sleep on the left side. Why?

After the second and third trimesters, as the fetus grows larger, lying flat will cause pressure on the fetus and affect oxygen supply. Lying on the right side will aggravate the right rotation of the uterus, affect blood supply, and hinder oxygen supply to the fetus. Therefore, the best sleeping position is to choose lying on the left side.

Lying on your left side does not mean you have to lie sideways at a 90-degree angle. Just tilting it about 30 degrees will do. You can put a pillow on your waist and back so that you won't feel tired and can maintain your sleeping position.

Don't worry too much if your baby changes his sleeping position after falling asleep. It won't have much impact in the short term. Even if your baby changes his sleeping position at night, it's okay to turn over. Don't be too anxious. If your baby is uncomfortable, he will wake you up.

Early pregnancy (1-3 months)

The fetus is relatively small in the early stages of pregnancy. Sleeping on your stomach will not only squeeze the abdomen, causing insufficient oxygen supply to the pregnant mother's body, but also squeeze the respiratory tract, causing the pregnant mother to breathe rapidly.

Second trimester (4-7 months)

During this stage, the pregnant mother's abdomen gradually bulges, and many pregnant mothers will feel back pain, leg pain, and soreness. During this period, it is best for pregnant mothers to slowly correct their supine sleeping position, because the slowly growing abdomen will produce a sense of oppression on the pregnant mother. The larger the belly, the greater the sense of oppression. Lying on your back may cause compression of arteries and veins, causing blood circulation disorders and easy hypoxia.

Sleeping on your side can reduce pressure on pregnant women. If necessary, you can put a pillow between your waist and legs to help distribute your weight, which can relieve discomfort.

Late pregnancy (August to October)

At this time, it is more particular to lie on the left side, which can minimize the pressure of the fetus on the pregnant woman's aorta and provide enough blood for the baby in time. At the same time, pregnant mothers should pay attention to the fact that in the late pregnancy, most mothers will have different degrees of right rotation of the uterus. Lying on the side can better reduce the tension of the uterine blood vessels and ensure adequate blood supply.

It is recommended that pregnant mothers lie on their left side at 15-30 degrees, not 90 degrees.

What to do if you have trouble sleeping during pregnancy

Drink a glass of milk or take a warm bath and listen to some light music before going to bed;

Dry the quilt frequently to make it soft and help you fall asleep;

All body muscles should be relaxed. Pregnant women with lower limb edema should raise their legs appropriately.

Doing moderate exercise can speed up the body's metabolism, relieve fatigue during pregnancy, and help pregnant mothers fall asleep faster;

Pay attention to your diet. For example, eating too salty or spicy food may lead to drinking too much water, resulting in frequent urination and affecting sleep.
