What to do if you have a lump in your breast while breastfeeding

Nowadays, many mothers choose to breastfeed after giving birth. Of course, breastfeeding is very difficult for mothers. If breastfeeding is not done well or breastfeeding is not done often, it is easy to cause lumps in the breasts. What should I do if I have lumps in the breasts during breastfeeding? How to prevent breast lumps? It’s a concern that moms have for each other.

If there are lumps when massaging the breast during breastfeeding, it is caused by milk stasis. In severe cases, it can cause acute mastitis, which is manifested as swelling, heat, pain and even fever. If there are only lumps and no other symptoms, it is recommended to suck more and combine massage and heat compress to promote the elimination of lumps. Generally, it can disappear. In the future, you need to feed frequently and suck more to avoid blocking the milk ducts.

Mastitis generally refers to subacute suppurative mastitis during lactation, which usually occurs in women during lactation due to milk stasis and bacterial invasion. The clinical symptoms are mainly lumps.

What is the cause of the lumps? It is due to subacute mastitis, which is a clinical symptom dominated by lumps. It may also be accompanied by swelling, heat and pain, swollen axillary lymph nodes, and blood tests showing an increase in white blood cells, etc. These are clinical symptoms. How are the lumps caused? It is because of nipple inversion and obstruction of the mammary ducts. The malformation causes the secreted milk to be unable to be discharged from the body, and the milk accumulates in the breast to form lumps.

Under normal circumstances, if there is no bacterial infection, there will be no acute infection. If there is no bacterial invasion, there will be no acute infection. When the bacteria pass through the damaged skin or enter the milk through the mammary duct, it will cause a purulent acute infection, which is the cause of the lump.

How to treat and prevent it? We just mentioned keeping the nipples clean, not letting the baby sleep with the nipple in the mouth, and prohibiting breastfeeding after damage, etc., including wearing a suitable bra, using ice compresses at the beginning of treatment, and then heat compresses. When your body temperature rises, use antibiotics, or use a manual breast pump or gently press to drain the milk accumulated in the nipple. These are all ways to treat it. Finally, if suppuration occurs, you can only use incision drainage method, so this is the treatment of lumps.
