The cervix is one of the key organs in the female urinary system. From embryos and fetuses to old age, the cervix is involved in disease prevention and health care issues such as gynecology, obstetrics, family planning, prenatal and postnatal care, and reproductive health throughout a woman's life. It involves women's own physical and mental health, family harmony, economic and social issues, and is also closely related to sex and reproduction. The cervix may have a variety of symptoms, including abnormalities in embryonic development, inflammation, neoplasia, benign tumors, malignant tumors, damage, cervical infertility, family planning policy, assisted reproductive technology, cervix and sex, cervical pregnancy, cervical dystocia and many other gynecological problems. The cervix is an important defense to prevent pathogens from entering the internal reproductive organs, but it itself is also under the erosion of various pathogenic factors (childbirth, miscarriage, surgical damage to the cervix, etc.); and the cervical endometrium has many wrinkles and cracks, and it is difficult to eliminate the bacteria lurking here, which can easily cause cervical inflammation. This disease can be divided into acute and chronic types. The latter is often caused by the inability of the former to heal immediately. Chronic cervicitis is more common in clinical medicine. Its most obvious symptom is thick milky white mucus or purulent yellowish mucus leucorrhea. In addition, it may be accompanied by vulvar itching, lumbar pain, etc. Location The cervix is located below the uterus, 2.5 to 3 cm long, connected to the uterine body above and deep in the vagina below. Cervical function The cervix protrudes from the female vagina and contains glandular ducts that secrete a kind of mucus, namely cervical mucus. The characteristics and quantity of this mucus, like the uterine wall, are affected by the ovaries and show significant regular changes. During ovulation, under the action of estrogen, cervical mucus is thinner, which is beneficial to the passage of male sperm. In addition, male sperm can also absorb nutrients from the cervical mucus, enhance its charm, and promote the fusion of male sperm and egg cells. After ovulation, under the action of estrogen, cervical mucus decreases and becomes thicker, and a mucus plug may be formed in the cervical canal, which separates the cervix from the outside and creates a protective effect. At the same time, it is not conducive for sperm to pass through the cervix. ⑴The cervix is the first barrier for male sperm to pass through. It metabolizes mucus. With the change of menstrual cycle, under the action of estrogen, cervical mucus becomes thinner, which is conducive to the passage of sperm. ⑵The cervical canal is the area where male sperm is stored. Its inner cavity has many recesses and cracks, where male sperm can be temporarily stored for 1 to 2 weeks, waiting to gain kinetic energy before entering the uterus. ⑶After pregnancy, the uterus continues to expand to accommodate the growth and development of the fetus. However, the cervix remains closed, ensuring the safe growth and development of the fetus in the uterus until full term. ⑷ At full term, the cervix gradually loosens during delivery and begins to expand. The cervical opening enlarges from 0.5 cm to 10 cm, opening the first door for the successful delivery of the fetus. Therefore, the cervix is the only way for the delivery of the fetus. ⑸ Many people think that the cervix is also a sexually sensitive organ of the human body and is related to the sexual life of couples. |
