Urine Ketones A Plus Pregnant Woman

Urine Ketones A Plus Pregnant Woman

Normal people produce very little ketone bodies in their urine, and they cannot be detected by normal methods. In routine physical examinations, the index value of urine ketone bodies is expressed as negative or positive to indicate whether it is normal. So, how much is the standard value of urine ketone bodies? What does a minus sign in urine ketones in pregnant women mean?

If a pregnant woman's urine test shows a negative sign for ketones, it may be due to high blood sugar or insufficient nutrition. Because there are no ketone bodies in urine under normal circumstances, when the body's blood sugar metabolism is abnormal and fat decomposition is increased, ketone bodies will appear positive. It is recommended to further test the blood sugar level at five points to determine the changes in blood sugar levels. If the blood sugar level is normal, it may be due to nutritional deficiencies. It is recommended to appropriately increase nutritional treatment. Generally, it is recommended to recheck urine ketones after three days to confirm the change of the condition.

How much is the standard value of urine ketone bodies?

Ketone bodies are a general term for three substances in the human body (acetyl formate, hydroxybutyrate and toluene). They are the intermediate substances in the decomposition of body fat and are converted in the liver. Under normal circumstances, very little is produced and cannot be detected using our current standard basic method, so ordinary people generally judge the test to be negative.

The positive urine ketone test is due to accelerated fat decomposition in the body, increased conversion of ketone bodies in the liver, and the excretion of a large amount of ketone bodies in the urine. It usually occurs when: 1. Children vomit frequently; 2. Long-term absence of meals due to illness; 3. Diabetic ketoacidosis occurs.

Factors that affect urine ketone test:

1. Because both toluene and acetoacetic acid in urine ketone bodies are volatile, acetoacetic acid is more easily converted into toluene when heated. After the urine is infected by fungi, the ketone bodies disappear. Therefore, the urine must be fresh and retested promptly to prevent evaporation or dissolution of ketone bodies, resulting in false negatives or slightly lower results.

2. Samples containing melanin or a lot of L-dopa metabolites are more likely to show positive results.

3. Pay attention to the difference in sensitivity between dry electrochemiluminescence and ketone body powder method. The two methods of collecting the same pathology specimen may produce very different results, so be careful when analyzing the results.
