Will the hymen break on its own?

The hymen appears, grows, and forms when the fetus is 3 to 4 months old. The shape and thickness of the hymen during puberty vary. Generally, the hymen of adolescents is smaller and thicker. With the growth and development of the female body, the hymen will gradually become larger and thinner, and have greater elasticity. The thickness of an adult woman's hymen is about 1 to 2 mm.

During the first sexual intercourse, the hymen is broken and torn, causing bleeding. Because the hymen can be broken in many different ways, the degree of the breaking can vary greatly. The septate hymen with two holes will bleed more and be accompanied by more intense pain. When the mouth-shaped hymen is broken, there will be very little bleeding and basically no pain. The thick and very elastic umbrella-shaped hymen may not break at all after it breaks.

After giving birth, the hymen is broken and further damaged because the baby is delivered through the vagina. Sometimes only a few residual bumps remain, called hymen marks. This type of change is less likely to occur in women who give birth by caesarean section.

There are many reasons for the rupture of the hymen. The most familiar one is that when a woman has sex for the first time, the hymen breaks and bleeds. In addition, the following accidents can also cause the hymen to rupture and bleed. If some women participate in long jump, horse riding, traditional martial arts and other sports excessively, the hymen may rupture; and some women may cause the hymen to rupture when washing the vulva, using the hidden tampon improperly, or even masturbating. Excessive exercise, vaginal suppositories, and some complicated physical work can cause the hymen to rupture. Ignorance in childhood, inserting foreign objects into the vagina, and masturbation can also cause the hymen to rupture.

Analysis of the condition: The hymen can rupture not only after sexual intercourse, but also during strenuous exercise. Some women insert toys into their private parts during childhood, some suffer trauma or sharp objects happen to touch their private parts, some are injured by masturbation, cleaning or vaginal suppositories. The hymen is very sensitive and ruptures during excessive exercise. It must be noted that when the hymen is broken, it is not a layer of membrane, but only a circle of strips of tissue rotating around the vulva.
