Symptoms of menopause in a 52-year-old woman

Menopausal syndrome refers to a series of syndromes dominated by autonomic nervous system dysfunction and metabolic disorders caused by the gradual decline or loss of ovaries and the decrease of estrogen levels in women during or after menopause.

Menopausal syndrome in women mostly occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. Generally, these symptoms have begun to appear when menstruation is irregular and can last until 2 to 3 years after menopause. Only in a few people can the symptoms be alleviated or disappeared 5 to 10 years after menopause.

Definition of menopausal syndrome in women

Menopause is a stage that every woman must go through, but the symptoms of each person vary in severity and duration. Mild cases may be fine, while severe cases may affect work and life, and even develop into menopausal symptoms. It can be as short as a few months or as long as two years. Although menopausal syndrome manifests itself in many symptoms, its essence is indeed a process of endocrine change that women must experience in their lifetime.

The main manifestations of menopausal syndrome in women

(1) The menstrual period gradually decreases, the cycle time (i.e. the time interval) increases, the physiological period (i.e. the bleeding time) decreases, and eventually the menstruation stops. However, there is also an increase in menstrual flow, accompanied by a large amount of blood clots, and then gradually stops, reproductive ability is lost, and reproductive organs shrink.

(2) Mental and autonomic nervous system dysfunction. Patients often feel redness of the head and neck, hot flashes and sweating, dizziness, headache, tinnitus, back pain, dry mouth, burning sensation in the throat, difficulty concentrating, anxiety, excitement, complex emotions, irritability, insomnia, numbness and itching of the skin, and sometimes a feeling of ants crawling on the body, and even hoarseness.

(3) Palpitations, high blood pressure, obesity, leg and foot swelling, joint pain, osteoporosis, etc. Any woman aged 45 to 50 who has the above symptoms can be diagnosed with female menopausal syndrome after the doctor has examined and ruled out other diseases.

Causes of menopausal syndrome in women

First, physiological changes include ovarian decline, estrogen secretion and ovulation gradually decrease and lose regularity until ovulation stops; the pituitary gland secretes too much follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. Changes in the structure and function of estrogen's target organs such as the vagina, uterus, breasts, and urethra. Then, during menopause, women will experience a series of physiological phenomena such as irregular menstruation, hot flashes, sweating, palpitations, frequent urination, urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness, low libido, poor sleep, osteoporosis and weight gain. Along with physiological changes, women may also experience some psychological discomfort such as irritability, memory loss, suspicion, suspicious nature and depression.
