Can a woman still have a baby at 45?

Women aged 45 can have children if they have not yet experienced menopause. Before pregnancy, couples need to undergo a physical examination to determine whether their bodies are suitable for pregnancy. It is necessary to pay attention to quitting smoking, drinking and drug addiction, enhance resistance, enhance immunity, get more rest, avoid excessive exercise, staying up late, overwork, increase the intake of nutrients, balance nutrition, and avoid malnutrition.

During pregnancy preparation, couples need to take folic acid tablets to prevent neural tube defects. During pregnancy, you need to conduct regular prenatal checkups, and also perform amniocentesis or minimally invasive DNA testing, because pregnancy at the age of 45 is considered an older mother and is more likely to produce a malformed fetus.

Women should avoid giving birth for the first time after 45 years of age.

A new study shows that women who give birth at age 45 have an easier pregnancy and birth than those who have not been pregnant before, and their babies are healthier.

Although all mothers were healthy before pregnancy, women who had no childbirth experience had a higher incidence of complications. For example, 11% of them developed preeclampsia, while only 1% of women who had given birth before did so. New mothers were also more likely to have premature babies, with 22% of their babies being born before 37 weeks of gestation, compared with 3.3% of mothers who had given birth before. New mothers were also more likely to have cesarean sections and be sent to the ICU, and their babies had more health problems. For example, their babies were more likely to not grow well in the womb (forcing doctors to deliver them prematurely) and to die during delivery. Their Apgar scores, which test their newborns' breathing, reflexes, and other predictors of later risk factors (such as cerebral palsy), were also lower.

Older women encounter more problems during pregnancy and childbirth because their egg cell count gradually decreases and their quality deteriorates, and the fetus may have defects. Therefore, many women who give birth for the first time after the age of 45 need to rely on artificial assisted fertility technology. If older women have never been pregnant or given birth before, they may not be fully prepared physically, and their minds may not have cleared the pressure of having their first child, which can lead to complications.
