Foods that cannot be eaten during breastfeeding

Mothers who are breastfeeding should avoid overeating for the sake of their baby's and their own health. There are many types of foods that cannot be eaten during breastfeeding, but don’t think it’s inconvenient in daily life, and you should give more consideration to the diet. So, what foods should you not eat while breastfeeding?

1. Spicy foods and caffeine: Onions, garlic and other spicy foods should be avoided, because these foods will change the taste and acidity of milk after being digested by the mother's digestive tract, which can cause diarrhea or bloating in babies.

2. Foods that only contain calories: Try not to use greasy or sweet foods such as fried chips, candy and cakes to replace a healthy diet. Because these foods generally contain high calories but lack vitamin A, they can only provide short-term energy, which has a great impact on the quality of breast milk. Moreover, fried foods cannot be digested and absorbed. Mothers who have just given birth have poor digestion ability, so eating fried foods is not good for their recovery as soon as possible.

3. Spicy food: Spicy food eaten by mother during breastfeeding will enter the baby's body through breast milk and affect the child's health. But you can eat a small amount of seasonings, such as pepper, vinegar, etc.

4. Chocolate: Because the cocoa alkaline contained in chocolate will penetrate into breast milk and accumulate in the baby's body. Theobromine can damage the central nervous system and heart, cause muscle weakness, increase urine volume, cause indigestion in babies, and disturbed sleep. If mothers eat too much chocolate, it will affect their appetite and make them gain weight.

5. Pickled fish, meat and other foods: The average daily salt intake for adults is 4.5-9 grams. According to daily habits, there is no need to avoid eating salt, nor to eat too salty food. If mothers eat too much salt, it will increase the burden on the kidneys, which is not good for the kidneys and will also increase blood pressure.

6. Eating too much chicken essence: Taking chicken essence has a serious impact on the development of children, especially for babies under 12 weeks old. It will cause the baby's IQ to decrease, growth and language development to be delayed and other adverse effects. Mothers are best not to eat chicken essence during breastfeeding, and don't be greedy and eat chicken essence for every meal.

7. Drugs and alcohol: After drugs and alcohol enter the blood, they can enter the baby's body through breast milk. Therefore, attention should be paid to the contraindications of the drug and alcohol consumption should be avoided.
