Postpartum bloody lochia usually lasts for

Pregnancy and childbirth are the inevitable path for many women. However, many pregnant women will experience persistent lochia after giving birth. Today, let us find out how long the persistent lochia after giving birth usually lasts.

The stubborn lochia that is discharged from the private parts of pregnant women after giving birth is the normal secretion of the private parts discharged from the healed uterus. The duration varies from person to person, with an average of about 3 weeks (21 days), a shorter duration of 2 weeks (14 days), and an older duration of up to 6 weeks (42 days).

After giving birth, the color of lochia will change from red to white over time. The actual process is as follows:

1. Stubborn postpartum lochia: bright red in color, contains a lot of blood, large amount, and sometimes small blood clots. There are small amounts of fetal membranes and necrotic decidual tissue. The persistent lochia lasts for 3 to 4 days. The amount of abnormal uterine bleeding gradually decreases, the serum increases, and it changes into serous persistent lochia.

2. Light red in color and contains too much pulp. A small amount of blood, but a large amount of necrotic decidual tissue, cervical mucus, intrauterine exudate, and pathogens. Serous and tenacious lochia lasts about 10 days, the serum gradually decreases, the white blood cells increase, and the tenacious lochia turns into milky white tenacious lochia.

3. Milky white stubborn postpartum lochia: thick and white in color. Contains a large number of white blood cells, necrotic tissue decidua, epithelial cells and bacteria. The milky white stubborn lochia lasted for 3 weeks.

Normal postpartum lochia has a fishy smell but no peculiar smell. It lasts for 4 to 6 weeks, with a total output of about 250ml-500ml, with great individual differences. By observing persistent postpartum lochia, paying attention to changes in its quality and quantity, color and smell, as well as the state of uterine repair, we can understand whether the uterine repair is normal.

How long does postpartum lochia last after giving birth?

Normally, stubborn postpartum lochia can be cleared 4-6 weeks after giving birth, but if it continues to leak beyond this period of time, it is called "stubborn lochia". If not treated promptly, it may affect the physical and mental health of the pregnant woman and cause other diseases.

For those who choose natural childbirth, lochia after delivery will generally last for 4-6 weeks, but this also depends on the physical condition of the person. People with poor physical fitness may extend to 6 weeks, while people with good physical fitness will generally be clear in 3 weeks. If the lochia is still not clear after 6 weeks of normal delivery, it may be related to the health of the pregnant woman, her diet, and her rest conditions.

The cause of persistent lochia is probably related to physical weakness, often due to qi deficiency, blood stasis or blood heat. Women with qi deficiency have insufficient blood and qi before giving birth, and they lose too much blood during delivery. They do not take good care of themselves and have no proper diet after giving birth, which damages the spleen and qi and makes it impossible to absorb blood. Those with blood stasis will have stubborn lochia and blood circulation obstruction after delivery. Women with blood heat lose too much blood during delivery, and because of yang deficiency, the blood heat forces the heat to run wildly, so they should seek medical attention immediately.
