Age of cervical vaccine 9-valent

Age of cervical vaccine 9-valent

Many friends may not know about the nine-valent cervical vaccine. In fact, this is the cervical cancer vaccine. HPV, also known as human papillomavirus, can increase the risk of many diseases, so the nine-valent cervical vaccine was developed to prevent diseases. The vaccination age for the nine-valent cervical vaccine is generally between 16 and 26 years old. Currently, only Hainan in the mainland can carry out this program.

What is HPV?

HPV is the abbreviation for human papillomavirus. HPV can be divided into two categories: carcinogenic (high-risk) and non-carcinogenic (low-risk). HPV can increase the risk of genital warts, oral cancer, cervical cancer, etc.

HPV16 has the highest carcinogenicity, and approximately 55% to 60% of cervical cancer causes are related to it.

HPV18 ranks second in carcinogenicity and is associated with 10% to 15% of cervical cancers.

However, infection with HPV does not mean that you will definitely get cervical cancer. Only a small number of women infected with high-risk HPV will eventually develop cervical cancer.

However, if HPV infection persists for more than 1 to 2 years, regardless of age, it means that the risk of subsequent cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) or cervical cancer is significantly increased.

How is HPV transmitted?

HPV is mainly transmitted through sexual contact. If your mouth or genitals come into contact with an infected area, you are likely to become infected. People with many sexual partners are at higher risk of infection.

Condoms do not completely protect against HPV infection because they do not cover all genital areas. However, the virus is not transmitted through regular contact with daily necessities, such as using a toilet seat.

Among Chinese women, the age of HPV infection shows a bimodal distribution, with the first peak between 17-24 years old and the second peak between 40-44 years old.

What are the age requirements for cervical cancer vaccination?

HPV is mostly transmitted through sexual intercourse, so it is best to get the HPV vaccine before having sexual intercourse. However, the standard for HPV vaccine injection is not whether or not one has sexual life, but whether or not one is infected with the HPV virus.

The World Health Organization recommends that girls aged 9 to 13 are most suitable for cervical cancer vaccination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's recommendation range is broader, and vaccination can be performed for people aged 9 to 26.

Among the vaccines currently approved for entry into China:

The recommended age for the bivalent HPV vaccine is 9 to 45 years old, previously 9 to 25 years old. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) announced on May 29 that based on the technical review results of the Drug Evaluation Center of the National Medical Products Administration, the HPV vaccine Cervarix has been approved to be administered at an age of 45, making it the only HPV vaccine currently approved in mainland China for all females aged 9 to 45.

The recommended age for quadrivalent HPV vaccine is 20 to 45 years old;

The nine-valent HPV vaccine is suitable for women aged 16 to 26. Currently, only Hainan Province allows vaccination in the country.

Although the best time for women to get vaccinated is before their first sexual intercourse, women who have had sexual intercourse and have not been infected with human papillomavirus can still be vaccinated. Adolescent males can also receive cervical cancer vaccine under the guidance of a doctor to prevent anal cancer and penile cancer.
