What should women with high testosterone not eat?

High testosterone in women is a symptom of female masculinization, which refers to the excessive secretion of male hormones in women, which manifests as abundant pubic hair and increased armpit hair. It can also affect the function of the ovaries and cause menstrual irregularities in women. Therefore, women with high testosterone should take medication to suppress the secretion of male hormones. They also need to adjust their diet and avoid eating some animal offal, foods containing arginine, and foods containing zinc.

Increased testosterone levels in women can be seen in the following situations:

1. Masculinizing ovarian tumors.

2. Serum androgen levels in women with PCOS may be normal or elevated. If androgen levels are elevated before treatment, they should decrease after treatment. It can be used as one of the indicators for evaluating therapeutic efficacy.

3. In case of adrenal cortical hyperplasia or tumor, serum androgen levels are abnormally elevated.

4. Differentiation of hermaphroditism In male pseudohermaphroditism and true hermaphroditism, the testosterone level is within the normal range for males; in female pseudohermaphroditism, the testosterone level is within the normal range for females.

5. When serum testosterone levels are normal in women with hirsutism, it is considered that the hair follicles are sensitive to androgens.

6. When using testosterone or endocrine drugs with androgenic effects such as danazol, androgen measurements are sometimes required during medication.

7. Hyperprolactinemia has symptoms and signs of excessive androgen. If routine androgen tests are within the normal range, blood prolactin should be measured.

Women with high testosterone levels are not advised to eat foods high in androgen, such as:

①Animal offal: Contains more cholesterol, and cholesterol is an important ingredient in the synthesis of sex hormones.

② Foods containing zinc: The food with the highest zinc content is oyster meat. Other foods such as beef, milk, chicken, chicken liver, egg yolk, shellfish, peanuts, cereals, beans, potatoes, vegetables, and brown sugar all contain a certain amount of zinc.

③Foods containing arginine: These foods are slimy, such as eel, catfish, loach, sea cucumber, cuttlefish, octopus, silkworm pupae, chicken, frozen tofu, seaweed, peas, etc.

④ Calcium-containing foods: Foods rich in calcium include dried shrimps, salted eggs, egg yolks, dairy products, soybeans, kelp, sesame paste, etc.

⑤ Foods rich in vitamins: Vitamin A, vitamin E and vitamin C all help delay aging and avoid sexual dysfunction. They are mostly found in fresh vegetables and fruits.
