Postpartum sleeping position for uterine recovery

Postpartum sleeping position for uterine recovery

After giving birth, the mother must pay attention to the recovery of the uterus so as not to leave any related sequelae and complications to the mother's body. Normally, mothers need a month of confinement to help their bodies recover. At the same time, they also need to pay attention to their sleeping posture to promote the recovery of the uterus. After giving birth, if the mother adopts the following sleeping positions, it will actually be of great benefit to the recovery of her uterus.

Correct sleeping position after childbirth

Natural childbirth

Mothers who give birth naturally have an incision in the perineum. If the incision is on the left side, they should sleep on the right side. If the incision is on the right side, they should sleep on the left side. This is to prevent the incision from being compressed. It can effectively help the uterus return to its original condition. New mothers can alternate with other sleeping positions to achieve the best effect.

Caesarean section

After the operation, the new mother returns to the ward and needs to lie flat on her back without a pillow for 6 hours with her head tilted to one side. This is because most cesarean sections use epidural anesthesia. Tilting the head to one side can prevent aspiration of vomitus, and lying flat on the back without a pillow can prevent headaches.

6 hours later

After 6 hours, the new mother can put a pillow under her body and should be encouraged to turn over to change different body positions. A semi-recumbent position is more beneficial than lying flat, as it can reduce the vibration and pulling pain of the wound when the body moves, and she will feel more comfortable.

Postpartum sleeping position can be changed freely

There should be no special regulations for the sleeping position of new mothers. It is best to change positions freely frequently. If there is no abnormality in the body, you can start lying prone on the second day after delivery, 1-2 times a day, each time for 15-20 minutes, to help the uterus return to its original forward flexion position. In addition, new mothers should do more chest-knee position, do more exercises to strengthen the elasticity of the pelvic floor muscles and anal contraction exercises during the confinement period, which will help prevent the uterus from tipping backward.

Lying flat for a long time after childbirth is not good for uterine recovery

Mothers should still lie on their side during the postpartum confinement period, because if they lie flat, the overweight uterus will fall backwards. The ligaments that support the position of the uterus after delivery are weak and have not yet restored their normal tension, making it difficult to pull the heavy uterus to the front position. As time goes by, the uterus will return to its posterior position, resulting in a posterior uterus. Mild posterior uterus is generally asymptomatic, but severe cases can cause pelvic congestion, leading to lower abdominal pain, back pain, etc.
