What is the third trimester internal examination?

Internal examination is actually a common way for women to undergo gynecological examinations. Doctors can perform relevant examinations on the vagina through a speculum. During pregnancy, pregnant mothers also need to undergo many examinations. So, what does the internal examination in the late pregnancy check? In fact, the internal examination in the late pregnancy is mainly to understand the shape and size of the pregnant mothers' pelvis, so as to predict the pregnant mothers' delivery method.

Many expectant mothers become curious when they hear that they have to do an internal examination, and may ask what it is. Some expectant mothers may even say it is disgusting or misunderstand, saying that internal examination will make people feel very uncomfortable and very painful. In fact, this is a process that every expectant mother who gives birth naturally must go through. First, let's talk about how to perform an internal examination.

1. First, the expectant mother should lie down and relax. The nurse will perform routine and thorough disinfection of the vulva for the expectant mother. Of course, the bed should be covered with clean sterile towels in advance, and the mother should urinate or empty the bladder in time.

2. At this time, the doctor will wash his hands as usual, put on medical gloves, wear sterilized clothes, and stand on the right side of the expectant mother. Then the doctor will use his left hand to slowly separate the labia minora of the expectant mother. The doctor will use the middle finger of his right hand to go directly into the vaginal opening of the expectant mother, and at the same time squeeze in the direction of the anus.

3. In special circumstances, the doctor will insert his entire hand into the mother's vagina when necessary, and use his left hand to press the mother's uterine fundus. The doctor's right hand will then use fingers to move and touch the fundus of the uterus. The doctor will not use his hands or wrists to move, because this way the mother can avoid more discomfort.

4. Doctors will usually arrange an internal examination when the expectant mother feels signs of imminent delivery, and she will be admitted to the hospital and undergo an internal examination. The first purpose is to understand the condition of the cervix, and then to determine the exact position of the baby's head.
