Does otitis media affect pregnancy?

Pregnant women are always worried about various diseases in their bodies, because these diseases will cause certain harm to the fetus in their belly. Once a patient suffers from otitis media, he will feel obvious pain inside the ear, and pus will flow out of the ear. Pregnant women are also likely to suffer from otitis media. When pregnant women suffer from otitis media, they will be very worried about whether otitis media will affect the pregnancy.

General chronic otitis media and relatively mild localized otitis media have no obvious effect on pregnancy. Acute otitis media can be treated with penicillin and appropriate use of nasal drops under the guidance of a doctor. If female patients with otitis media want to conceive, it is best to control it first, prevent acute attacks during pregnancy, and pay attention to daily health care.

Otitis media prevention

⒈ Actively prevent and treat colds.

⒉ Pay attention to rest and ensure enough sleep.

⒊ Pay attention to indoor air circulation and keep the nasal cavity unobstructed.

⒋ Let the water in the ears flow out after swimming. People with chronic otitis media should not swim.

⒌ Actively treat nasal diseases. When blowing your nose, do not blow it hard or press both nostrils at the same time. You should blow your nose crosswise on one side.

Surgical treatment of otitis media

Except for a few simple cases of otitis media that can be treated with local anesthesia, most cases require general anesthesia.

The first step is to make an incision. The incision can be made through the skin in front of or behind the ear, depending on the size and location of the hole. Smaller holes can even be repaired directly without touching the outer ear. If you want to start from behind the ear, you need to shave your hair to three centimeters above the ear before the operation; if you want to start from in front of the ear, you only need to shave your sideburns to the upper edge of the ear shell.

During surgery, the diseased tissue is removed under a microscope and then the eardrum is repaired. If there is an ossicular defect, it will be treated at the same time. Next, the external auditory canal is packed with soft glue, and then the wound is sutured, and the otitis media surgery is completed.

The average duration of the operation is about 1.5 hours, which may vary depending on the difficulty. Including preparation, anesthesia and recovery, it takes about 2 to 3 hours. If it is a pearl tumor, it will take more time.

Endoscopic treatment technology: Minimally invasive endoscopic treatment technology is a key promotion technology widely spread in European and American countries. Compared with traditional ear microscopes, ear endoscopes have the characteristics of wide field of view and flexible operation. They can obtain more comprehensive information on middle ear cavity lesions from multiple angles and more easily.

Surgery under ear endoscope is more convenient, quick, safe and minimally invasive. Otoendoscopic technology is mainly used for simple tympanic membrane repair. The application of otoendoscopic technology improves the success rate of surgery.

Eustachian tube insufflation: Eustachian tube insufflation device, nasal insufflation method, Bosch ball method or catheter method can be used to promote the patency of the Eustachian tube. Prednisolone can also be blown into the pharyngeal opening of the Eustachian tube through the catheter to achieve the purpose of patency and drainage.

As long as you do a good job of prevention and treatment during pregnancy, don't get sick, and don't take medicine, it will not affect your child. So you must take good care of your body during pregnancy, so that we don't have to worry about the problem of "Does otitis media affect pregnancy?"
