Headache before period

Headache before period

Before menstruation, the human body is very healthy and full of energy. However, when it is almost time for menstruation, the human body will show symptoms similar to premenstrual syndrome, such as headaches. Headaches during menstruation are mostly caused by the influence of estrogen. Pay attention to controlling your diet, try to change some habits of drinking beverages and sweets, and pay more attention to exercise to relieve the symptoms.

Before menstruation, the estradiol concentration in the serum decreases, causing the intracranial and extracranial blood vessels and uterine blood vessels to be more sensitive to certain factors such as serotonin and other substances, thereby causing changes in vascular tension and causing headaches in some patients who are sensitive to this. After menstruation, the estradiol concentration in the serum returns to normal and the patient's headaches are relieved.

There is another possibility that estrogen (including estradiol) can stimulate the secretion of prolactin, thereby directly or indirectly stimulating the secretion of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins act on blood vessels, causing vascular contraction and dilation. This change also shows cyclical changes due to the influence of estrogen, thereby triggering headache attacks.

Solutions for menstrual headaches

1. Estrogen: You can take estrogen for 3 days under the guidance of a doctor before your period;

2. Control your diet: Eat more foods that help relieve hormonal effects before and after menstruation, such as milk, fruits, vegetables, oats, oysters, red dates, and brown sugar water.

3. Drink sweet drinks: Sugar can quickly increase the body's blood sugar content, while drinking water can increase the body's blood volume and improve brain ischemia. Therefore, when you are in pain, giving yourself a glass of sweet milk or juice can help relieve migraines caused by cerebral vasodilation and nerve compression.

4. Take a walk outdoors: It can adjust your mood and relieve stress.

5. Massage: Constantly combing your scalp with a pointed comb can improve blood supply to the brain.

6. Hot compress: Soak your hands in a basin of hot water and apply a hot towel to your head for 30 minutes each time.
