Brown discharge during pregnancy

Brown discharge during pregnancy

In the second trimester of pregnancy, the fetus is usually in a relatively stable stage, and the chance of miscarriage is generally very small. If a small amount of brown secretions appear in the second trimester, everyone must pay attention to it. There are many reasons for this symptom in the second trimester. It is best to go to the hospital to find out the cause and then receive targeted treatment. Try to stay in bed as much as possible, avoid exercise, have sex, and maintain a balanced nutrition.

What is the cause of a small amount of brown discharge during pregnancy?

Abnormal vaginal discharge

The estrogen level in the expectant mother's body gradually increases as the pregnancy progresses, which promotes the secretion of the cervix and endometrial glands. In particular, the amount of leucorrhea increases in the late pregnancy. This is a normal physiological phenomenon. However, if the leucorrhea is pus-like, or has an unpleasant odor, mixed with tofu-like substances, and the vulva is itchy, you should seek medical attention immediately to check whether you have vaginitis.

Candidiasis during pregnancy must be treated, otherwise the fetus may be infected when passing through the birth canal, such as developing thrush. Doctors usually use local medication in the vagina to ensure the safety of the fetus.

Dark brown discharge

If your vaginal discharge is mixed with blood or turns dark brown, seek medical attention immediately. Generally, there will be no threatened abortion in the second trimester. The appearance of dark brown secretions is mostly related to a low placenta, pregnancy diseases such as cervical polyps, pre-pregnancy cervical erosion, excessive fatigue, etc. Just pay attention to medical treatment and rest.

Amniotic fluid

Amniotic fluid is a light yellow, watery substance that is sticky. Amniotic fluid may leak out in the middle and late stages of pregnancy. If only a small amount of amniotic fluid leaks out and there is no such incident afterwards, it may be caused by overfatigue. You should pay attention to rest. If you are worried, you can go to the hospital for an ultrasound to observe the condition of the fetus. If too much amniotic fluid leaks out and symptoms such as back pain, stomach pain, or bloody secretions occur, you should consider whether it is a symptom of premature birth and go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible.

Enhance self-care

Wash the vulva 2 to 3 times a day with warm water. Do not use any douche and do not rinse the inside of the vagina. Use a special bath towel and basin. Do not wear tight clothes. Change your underwear frequently and dry washed underwear in the sun. Change the direction of wiping after going to the toilet and wipe from front to back. Use toilet paper instead of sanitary pads. If you use sanitary pads, change them every 1 to 2 hours.
