Should women get sterilized?

Should women get sterilized?

Many men choose sterilization for contraception. Sterilization has relatively few side effects on the human body. You need to have a physical examination before doing it. Not everyone can undergo sterilization. Some women use birth control pills or contraceptive rings to prevent pregnancy. Women can also use sterilization surgery to prevent pregnancy. However, some women are worried that sterilization surgery will cause great harm to the body and dare not go for it. So should women get sterilized? Let’s take a look at it next.

1. Should women get sterilized? What are the dangers of getting sterilized?

1. Increase the risk of gynecological diseases

Some statistics indicate that the chances of needing a hysterectomy due to gynecological problems after a sterilization surgery are higher than for the general population. In addition, women may experience increased menstrual bleeding, irregular bleeding during menstruation, sexual problems, emotional instability, aggravated premenstrual syndrome, etc. after sterilization surgery.

2. Discomfort during surgery

The most common adverse reactions during the operation include nausea, vomiting, pain, and low back pain and swelling. Due to insufficient analgesia and the patient's fear and tension, local pain is caused during the abdominal insertion; pain caused by manipulation or instrument reduction in the retroverted uterus; soreness and pain in the waist when lifting the fallopian tube with a hook or an oval clamp; nausea and vomiting caused by inadvertent stimulation of the ovaries; upper abdominal pain or nausea and vomiting caused by traction and stimulation of the greater omentum and mesentery; a small number of patients' lack of cooperation or poor coordination, or difficulty in finding and lifting the tube due to excessive obesity, resulting in repeated searches that increase the patient's psychological burden, causing or aggravating local pain and other discomfort.

3. Incision infection

The incision for female sterilization surgery is much larger than that for male sterilization, so the risk of incision infection also comes with it. Some women lack the concept of sterility, put their fingers into the dressing to scratch, have poor personal hygiene concepts, and accidentally contaminate the wound dressing with sweat, urine, milk stains, etc., which can easily lead to incision infection.

4. Causes irregular menstruation

Many women have normal menstruation before having tubal ligation. However, after tubal ligation, menstrual cycle disorders, excessive or insufficient menstrual flow, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, and oligomenorrhea may occur. This is called "menstrual disorder after tubal ligation."

2. Which women cannot undergo sterilization surgery?

1. Do not do it if you have abdominal skin infection or genital infection.

2. The patient is too weak to tolerate the operation, such as women with postpartum hemorrhage, shock, heart failure, etc.

3. Those whose body temperature is above 37.5 degrees twice within 24 hours cannot take the test.

4. Women should not do this during pregnancy.

5. Surgery should be postponed for patients with severe mental illness.

3. When is the best time for women to undergo sterilization surgery?

1. During the non-pregnancy period, the procedure should be performed within 3-7 days after the menstruation is completely over.

2. Surgery can be performed immediately after early or late artificial abortion, but it is not easy to perform surgery within 1 month after spontaneous abortion or missed abortion. For women with IUDs, the IUD should be removed first and then sterilization should be performed.

3. For those who give birth naturally in the hospital during the postpartum period, the general condition is good and the surgery can be performed 6 hours after delivery. For those who give birth naturally outside the hospital, they need to be hospitalized for 1-2 days for observation and the condition is normal before the surgery can be performed. For those with difficult labor, they need to be hospitalized for 4-5 days for observation, and surgery will be performed only if there are no special circumstances.

4. During breastfeeding, the operation can be performed within 3-7 days after the menstruation resumes. Those whose menstruation has not resumed can choose to have surgery on any day, but pregnancy must be ruled out.

5. Patients who undergo cesarean section or other gynecological surgery can undergo tubal ligation at the same time.
